Forget Eberechi Eze – Liverpool Should Sign “One of the World’s Best Wingers” on a Free Transfer

Liverpool are assessing potential new attacking signings to bolster their squad as they look ahead to their title-defending campaign in the Premier League. The Reds clinched the English title with matches to spare, marking a successful first season under manager Arne Slot’s leadership.

As they prepare for the 2025/26 season, Liverpool have already taken significant steps by securing new contracts for Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah. Salah, who is on track to be the club’s top scorer once again, has consistently held this position since joining in 2017.

However, concerns remain over other members of the attacking line. With Darwin Nunez expected to depart and Luis Diaz reportedly considering an exit, the Reds are exploring the possibility of strengthening their forward options. This includes the pursuit of new wide players, as well as a potential clinical striker to add depth to their attacking force.

Liverpool Unsure on Eberechi Eze Transfer

In recent weeks, Slot’s side has been linked with several exciting potential signings. Players such as Jarrod Bowen and Eberechi Eze have emerged as names of interest. Although Eze is not primarily a winger, he has demonstrated his versatility by successfully playing on both the left and right flanks when required, and his impressive statistics have certainly captured attention.

With nine goals and 11 assists in what has been a remarkable season for Crystal Palace, it’s clear why Eze is attracting interest ahead of the summer transfer window. However, Football Insider reports that Liverpool has ‘concerns’ about his ability to perform during difficult periods for his team, with doubts over his consistency.

This opens the door for Liverpool to explore other options. There is one particular target they have been monitoring for a while, but if they are to make a move, they must act swiftly to secure a deal.

Liverpool Must Try Again for Leroy Sane

Leroy Sane, the former Manchester City player, has been on Liverpool’s radar for some time. With his contract at Bayern Munich set to expire, the Reds are in a strong position to explore the possibility of securing him on a free transfer at the end of the season.

However, Christian Falk reports that Sane is now inclined to stay at Bayern Munich and is even willing to accept a significant pay cut to finalise a new deal with the club.

Although no agreement has been reached yet, Liverpool still have time to persuade Sane to reconsider his decision. Falk’s update came before Liverpool were crowned Premier League champions, which could provide a crucial advantage in negotiations.

By signing Sane on a free transfer, Liverpool would have the financial flexibility to potentially bypass Bayern’s proposed wage cut offer, making the prospect of a Premier League title defence even more appealing.

Sane is no stranger to competing for England’s top title. The 29-year-old won the Premier League twice with Manchester City and was widely regarded as one of the world’s best wingers, a distinction that Pep Guardiola himself acknowledged in 2019.

“Playing in the middle he can do it, but I think he’s better out wide. I’m not saying he can’t [play in middle] but at the moment we have better players to do that job. But Leroy is best playing in the world out wide. I’d prefer to use him where he is strongest, he’s an incredible player.”

Sane’s current tally of 12 goals and five assists is respectable, but it falls short of what he is truly capable of. His playing time this season has been inconsistent, which may have affected his overall contribution.

The German forward has proven himself in the Premier League at the highest level, playing under a legendary manager alongside world-class talent. His ability to play on either wing means he could seamlessly slot into the left side, creating opportunities and complementing Salah’s play.

If Sane’s heart is set on staying at Bayern Munich, securing a deal may prove challenging. However, if anyone has the potential to convince him to return to England, it’s the reigning champions.
