Jamie Redknapp compared Mac Allister to Steven Gerrard following the 26-year-old’s display against Tottenham, where the Argentine international scored a stunning goal to give Liverpool the lead and help guide them to a 5-1 victory and the Premier League title.
Deeney highlighted how impressive Mac Allister’s form has been throughout the season, emphasising that the midfielder perfectly embodies the impact Slot has made at Liverpool since his appointment last summer.
Deeney said: “When you look at the midfield, his [Slot’s] whole season has been encapsulated by that midfield three. Ryan Gravenberch has been fantastic, he’s one of two players to play every game, and then there’s Alexis Mac Allister, who for £40m now looks like he could be worth £400m.”
As the end-of-season awards approach, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are expected to be the leading contenders among Liverpool players for the top honours, thanks to their outstanding performances this campaign.
However, many supporters believe Alexis Mac Allister has matched the club’s two main stars, with the former Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder thriving in a deeper role under Arne Slot alongside Ryan Gravenberch.
