Jamie Carragher Singles Out Liverpool Flaw to ‘Rectify’ This Summer as Hugo Ekitike Sends Message

Jamie Carragher has offered his thoughts as Hugo Ekitike continues to catch the eye, adding to the latest Liverpool developments and transfer speculation.
Liverpool capped off a flawless week with a win against West Ham United. With goals from Luis Diaz and Virgil van Dijk, Arne Slot’s team now sits just six points away from clinching the Premier League title.
Diaz’s goal came via an assist from Mohamed Salah, who, only two days earlier, had committed his future to Liverpool by signing a contract extension until 2027. The Egyptian star’s future had been the subject of much speculation in recent months, but that uncertainty has now been put to rest.
With Salah’s situation resolved, Liverpool can now turn their full attention to preparations for the summer transfer window, where activity is expected.
Sunday’s victory also highlighted key areas of the squad that may benefit from reinforcements. Newsnow takes a closer look at the current Liverpool headlines and transfer rumours as a new week begins.
Carragher on Red’s Arrows
Liverpool’s winning goal against West Ham, scored by a central defender, came shortly after club legend Jamie Carragher expressed concerns about the strength of Arne Slot’s attacking options.
“It was just interesting when [Ryan] Gravenberch looked up there. There was a huge space and he put the ball into that space, but that’s something Liverpool do lack – something Liverpool will try to fix in the summer – real blistering pace in the attack,” he explained on Sky Sports.
“You mention Mo Salah’s, well, not lack of pace but he certainly isn’t as quick as he was. When you looked up there and see Diaz and Gakpo, you wouldn’t feel any of them would win a race.
“That’s something that the manager will look to rectify in the summer. Go back to what Liverpool had in the past with Salah and [Sadio] Mane. That’s something Liverpool will look to get back.”
Ekitike at It Again
With attacking changes at Anfield heavily featured in pre-summer transfer speculation, Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike has emerged as one of the names linked to Liverpool.
According to the Daily Mail, the French striker is considered “one to keep a close eye on,” standing out among the various options the Reds have been associated with in recent reports.
Shortly after Carragher’s remarks during Liverpool’s match against West Ham on Sunday, Ekitike played a key role in Eintracht Frankfurt’s emphatic 3-0 win over Bundesliga side Heidenheim.
He set up Robin Koch’s goal with precise control inside the box before tapping in at the back post in the 71st minute to seal the win—marking his 21st goal of the campaign.
His goal celebration echoed one familiar to Anfield supporters, as he perched on the advertising boards in a style reminiscent of Mohamed Salah.
Ekitike was later substituted, with Frankfurt keeping one eye on their upcoming Europa League quarter-final second leg against Tottenham Hotspur.
