‘Excellent’ – National Media Drools Over 7/10 Liverpool Player After What He Did on International Duty

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has maintained a high level of performance over the past two years for both club and country.

The dependable shot-stopper was among the Reds players who represented their nations on Sunday, once again delivering a solid performance.

Kelleher played a crucial role in the Republic of Ireland’s 2-1 victory in the first leg of their Nations League promotion/relegation play-off against Bulgaria at the Hristo Botev Stadium.

On Sunday, Ireland secured a 2-1 win at the Aviva Stadium, sealing a 4-2 aggregate victory and ensuring their continued participation in Nations League B.

Similar to the first leg, they staged a comeback to win 2-1, with Evan Ferguson and Adam Idah finding the back of the net.

What the Irish Media are Saying About the Liverpool Goalie

Kelleher was not to blame for the opening goal and, as in the first leg, did not have to make any difficult saves.

The Irish Mirror gave him a 6/10 rating, saying – “Little to do apart from fishing the ball from his net before half-time.”

The Irish Independent also rated the Reds goalkeeper 6/10. They wrote, “Couldn’t do a lot about Bulgaria’s opener and was only tested once after the restart, while his distribution was excellent.”

The Irish Daily Mail gave him a 7/10 rating.

The newspaper wrote: “Flat-footed for Antov’s flash opener, did fine afterwards as Ireland gained more control.”

The Liverpool’s Irish goalkeeper has delivered exceptional performances over the years, but the time may have come for him to seek regular playing opportunities elsewhere.

Kelleher’s main challenge at Liverpool is the presence of Alisson Becker as the first-choice goalkeeper. The Brazilian is widely regarded as one of the best in the world, making it difficult for Kelleher to secure consistent game time.

With Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili set to arrive at Anfield this summer, Kelleher may be prompted to explore his options away from the club.

At 26, he should be playing regularly for a top Premier League team. AFC Bournemouth, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United have all expressed interest in signing him, and a transfer fee of around £30 million could be enough to secure his departure.
