Liverpool Suffer Injury Concern After Carabao Cup Final Defeat

Harvey Elliott did not accompany his Liverpool teammates to collect their Carabao Cup runners-up medals, as he carefully limped down the tunnel with assistance from the Reds’ staff.

Elliott was visibly in pain as he departed the pitch following the final whistle of the Carabao Cup final.

Introduced as a second-half substitute, Elliott provided the assist for Federico Chiesa’s injury-time goal, Liverpool’s only strike of the match. However, in the dying moments of the game, he was forcefully brought down by Joelinton, who faced no consequences despite a VAR review.

The young midfielder required help to leave the field and did not appear on the Wembley steps to receive his runners-up medal.

Elliott has faced a challenging season on a personal level, with limited playing time throughout the campaign. Nonetheless, he has recently made key contributions, scoring against Paris Saint-Germain and providing an assist against Newcastle.

The 21-year-old also played a role in Liverpool’s comeback against Southampton last weekend, entering the match with his team trailing 1-0. Liverpool eventually secured a 3-1 victory.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot expressed regret over not starting Elliott in that fixture, which took place just three days after the midfielder’s decisive goal away to PSG.

“It’s always a difficult decision not to start Harvey, not to start Wata, not to start all the other ones that I don’t play,” he told reporters.

“But if someone comes in for five minutes, touches his first ball and scores a goal, then to change your whole idea about all the lineups you made before, that would be a bit weird as well.

“So yeah, he (Elliott) had a good impact on the game [against PSG], today he had again a good impact on the game. That’s why he got 45 minutes today as well, because he did so well in Paris.

“There’s also a reason why I play so many times the other ones, and all the time they deserved that trust. But today, if I could do it one more time over, I would have started it differently than I started, but you don’t know this in advance.”
