“I Repeat” – Luis Enrique Sends New Warning to Liverpool After PSG Earn Crushing Victory

Liverpool hold a narrow 1-0 aggregate lead over Paris Saint-Germain as they prepare for the Champions League last-16 second-leg clash at Anfield.

Luis Enrique has stressed that PSG are travelling to Liverpool with nothing to lose – something he believes makes them “even more dangerous.”

The return leg at Anfield on Tuesday promises to be a thrilling encounter. Liverpool secured their advantage with a dramatic 1-0 victory in Paris earlier this week.

Despite PSG dominating proceedings at the Parc des Princes – with Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker making nine crucial saves – it was substitute Harvey Elliott who delivered the decisive blow. The young midfielder scored with Liverpool’s first shot on target just 47 seconds after stepping onto the pitch in the 87th minute.

However, the physical toll of that hard-fought win appeared to affect Arne Slot’s side in their following match against Southampton. Although Liverpool eventually claimed a 3-1 victory, they trailed at half-time after a lacklustre first-half performance.

A much-improved second-half display saw Darwin Núñez equalise before Mohamed Salah converted two penalties, helping Liverpool extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to 16 points.

Meanwhile, PSG took another step towards securing the Ligue 1 title with a commanding 4-1 win over Rennes. Key players such as Vitinha, Achraf Hakimi, Ousmane Dembélé, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia were rested from the starting line-up. Dembélé later made a significant impact, scoring twice late in the game.

With PSG facing the prospect of an early exit from Europe’s elite competition, Enrique believes the absence of pressure could work in their favour. Speaking via Culture PSG, he expressed confidence that their underdog status might provide them with a crucial advantage.

“What is magical and wonderful about football is that it is unpredictable. If the team that played the best or the one with the biggest budget always won, it would be very boring. Football has surprises in store, and it is true that we are very sad and devastated in the hours following the match.

“But once we have analysed the match, seen the players in training, and seen the result of today’s match against this complicated Rennes team that put us in difficulty at the start of the second half, I think the team reacted very seriously and that obviously gives us hope. I repeat: we have nothing to lose, everything is already lost, which makes us even more dangerous than we usually are.

“The first leg leaves us no options: we have to win, that’s the objective. Nothing will change compared to the other matches, we play to win, but that’s the objective.”
