Arne Slot Names Reason for Red Card Controversy as Fresh Injury Blow Confirmed

Liverpool manager Arne Slot was among four individuals sent off following the Merseyside Derby. He has now addressed his red card while also providing an update on injuries within the squad.

The aftermath of Liverpool’s dramatic 2-2 draw against Everton continues, with Reds boss Arne Slot breaking his silence on the incident that led to his dismissal.

Slot was shown a red card by referee Michael Oliver after a post-match exchange of words. His assistant, Sipke Hulshoff, Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, and Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure were also sent off after the final whistle.

Despite the result, Liverpool remain seven points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table as they prepare for their upcoming clash with Wolves on Sunday. Newsnow Liverpool examines the latest developments from Anfield.

Arne Slot Addresses Red Card

Slot has admitted he regrets his actions after being sent off following the derby, but the Dutchman also criticised the amount of added time Oliver allowed to be played.

“There’s process now. I think I have to respect it. So I can’t go into details. I think what happened was that the extra-time five minutes ended up being eight,” Slot said. “It happened a lot and the emotions got the better of me.

“If I could do it differently, If I look back at it, I would love to do it differently. I would do it (differently) next time as well. What has exactly been said or what has happened, there is an ongoing process and I don’t want to disturb that.”

Fresh Injury Blow Confirmed

Slot has also confirmed that Cody Gakpo is a doubt for Sunday’s clash with Wolves after the forward picked up a knock against Everton.

Liverpool will also be without the injured Joe Gomez and Tyler Morton, while Curtis Jones is suspended following his red card. “The new manager (Vitor Pereira) has come in and done a good job. It will be a challenge on Sunday but that’s normal,” Slot said.
