Arne Slot Makes Anfield Crowd Admission That Liverpool Fans Will Simply Love

Liverpool secured a commanding 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg at Anfield.
Arne Slot praised both Liverpool’s players and supporters for delivering the intensity needed as they advanced to the Carabao Cup final.
Trailing 1-0 on aggregate from the first leg, the Reds entered the decisive clash with determination. Anfield was electric even before kick-off, with fans eager to provide Slot’s side with an extra boost. Although Liverpool had to remain patient, they levelled the tie in the 34th minute when Cody Gakpo found the net.
Despite the celebrations, Gakpo and his teammates understood the job was not yet complete. Virgil van Dijk swiftly urged the team to refocus for the restart.
Liverpool then dominated the second half, with Mo Salah converting a penalty to put them ahead. Dominik Szoboszlai and Van Dijk later added to the scoreline, sealing an emphatic 4-0 victory.
The Reds now have their sights set on retaining the Carabao Cup, as they prepare to face Newcastle United in the final at Wembley on Sunday, 16 March. When asked about Van Dijk’s leadership in urging a quick restart, head coach Slot responded:
“I saw the same thing. I think it was a moment where you could see how we played through the whole game. It was so intense. The players were ready for it, the fans were ready for it and we all simply wanted one thing – and that was going through to the final. That mentality we showed from the first until the last second, but it was probably well shown in that moment as well.”
Liverpool controlled the game entirely, leaving Tottenham with little opportunity to score. Their closest attempt came when Son Heung-Min struck the crossbar, but by then, the Reds were already 3-0 up. Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté formed a formidable defensive partnership, displaying aggression throughout the match.
Despite Tottenham missing several key players, they remained a dangerous attacking side. However, Liverpool’s ability to neutralise their threat impressed Slot, who remarked:
“I think, I am not saying anything strange, Tottenham are conceding goals because they have so many injury problems – that is probably the main reason why they are conceding goals – but they are always able to score goals as well and create a lot.
“For us to be so aggressive without the ball that it took them 80 minutes before they had their first shot on target, it doesn’t tell you anything about Tottenham [but] that should tell you a lot about our work-rate without the ball.
“That’s what stood out for me. To play against a team that is so good in creating chances, only conceding one shot is, in the end, a good accomplishment.”
