John Aldridge Names the Team Liverpool Need to Worry About in the Premier League Title Race – and It’s Not Arsenal

Liverpool currently lead the Premier League table, holding a six-point advantage over their closest competitors, Arsenal. However, as the season approaches its decisive stage, it is not the Gunners that should be their primary concern.

The Reds have been advised that their biggest challenge in the title race is not another team, but themselves.

Currently at the summit of the league, Liverpool maintain their lead over Arsenal, having last secured the title in 2020 under Jurgen Klopp. They also came close in 2022, finishing as runners-up.

Their performance this season has been outstanding under Arne Slot, who took over from Klopp during the summer. Additionally, Liverpool have a game in hand over Arsenal due to the postponement of their Merseyside Derby fixture against Everton.

Former club star John Aldridge has now urged them to ignore external distractions and concentrate solely on their own performances.

The ex-Republic of Ireland international, who lifted the league trophy with Liverpool in 1988, believes his former team must block out all external noise to stay on course.

“We don’t need to worry about Arsenal, only worry about ourselves. We just need to keep on going, keep on doing what we’re doing and try to get even better if we can, taking every game as it comes.

“It’s not about Arsenal, Man City or whoever in the title-race now – it’s about ourselves. People say to me, ‘Who are you worried about?’ I’m worried about Liverpool. Whether we go through a bad run or whatever,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

“If we win the game in hand and can beat Arsenal at home, they could go a long way to make sure we’re there at the end of the season. There are big games coming up, massive games. We know that.”

Liverpool’s title aspirations received a significant boost with a 2-0 victory over an in-form Bournemouth last Saturday. Manager Arne Slot was thrilled to see his team successfully navigate yet another tough test in their pursuit of the championship.

“Almost every game feels like this for me. We’ve had so many of our games until the end exciting and there were a few moments already this season where it felt that we’re just not on the right side,” he said.

“All the points we’ve got until now I think we deserved them. I have said many times already the Chelsea game, that’s under debate, and maybe this game we weren’t unlucky, let’s put it that way, but Fulham at home being 2-2 and getting chance after chance.

“United at home getting chance after chance at 2-2. Forest ending as a draw with us getting chance after chance in the end of the game. What I want from them and what they want from each other is that they fight in every single game from the first until the last second to get the maximum result.

“That’s what the fans expect from them playing for this club. That’s what we try to do in every single game and it’s also necessary if you want to have any chance of a result in this league.”
