Arsenal Legend Ian Wright Sends Liverpool Contract Plea After Player’s ‘Last Six Months’ Comment

Liverpool have yet to secure new contracts for any players nearing the end of their current deals.

It appears increasingly probable that Liverpool will complete the January transfer window without making any new signings. However, attention will continue to focus on Anfield even after Deadline Day.

With no progress reported on contract renewals, speculation remains over whether Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah will still be at the club beyond the summer.

The trio have been the subject of ongoing speculation for months, and with overseas clubs now permitted to negotiate pre-contract agreements, it is an anxious period for Liverpool supporters.

While it is highly unlikely that Arne Slot would approve any significant departures at this stage of the season, the situation is expected to be very different in the summer.

At present, all three players face the prospect of leaving as free agents in the coming months. Much of the focus has been on Alexander-Arnold, who has been linked with Real Madrid, while Salah’s media statements have provided insight into his current stance with the club.

Unfortunately for fans, Salah’s most recent update, given earlier this month, offered little clarity. Shortly after the start of the new year, the Egyptian forward spoke to Sky Sports, though his comments did not reveal any significant developments.

“So far, yes. It’s the last six months. There is no progress there. We are far away from any progress. So, we just need to wait and see.”

Salah also spoke about Liverpool’s push for the Premier League title, which has become his primary focus this season. He hinted that this could be his final campaign with his teammates, including some of the squad’s more experienced players.

He added: “My motivation this year was to win a trophy and be a big part of winning that trophy, especially the Premier League. I still believe the team needs a trophy.

“There is still half of the team left like me, Trent, Virgil, Alisson, Robbo. It’s necessary for us to win another trophy before we all go.”

Ian Wright Urges Liverpool to Table New Salah Offer

Many pundits now share the view that Liverpool should secure Salah with a new contract, whether for one or two years. Ian Wright has weighed in on the matter, advising the club that if he were in charge, he would be willing to pay whatever it takes to keep Salah at Anfield.

“If Liverpool are deliberating over the fact like: ‘Yes he’s having moments at this stage of his career, he’s at that age, should we take a chance?’ I’m going to take a chance,” Wright said on Premier League Productions.

“Because what’s going to happen is that Liverpool are in a progressive mode, they’re in the ascendancy, they’re going to bring in players, so even if he’s there but older, he will still have moments, it’s the kind of money I would spend.”

Salah is having another prolific season with Liverpool, recording 23 goals and 17 assists across all competitions. The Egyptian, who turns 33 in June, continues to display his sharpness in front of goal without any signs of slowing down.
