Mo Salah Drops Clearest Hint Over Liverpool Contract Decision After Hitting Another Milestone and Equals Thierry Henry CL Record
Mohamed Salah dropped another hint about his contract future after achieving a significant milestone during Liverpool’s victory over Lille.
The Reds secured a 2-1 win against the French side at Anfield, ensuring their progression to the next stage of the Champions League.
Salah opened the scoring in the 34th minute, but Lille’s Jonathan David equalised just after the hour mark.
Harvey Elliott then delivered the winning goal with a deflected shot, earning Liverpool all three points on a memorable day for Salah.
The Egyptian forward became the first Liverpool player to reach 50 goals in European competitions, surpassing Steven Gerrard, who is in second place with 41 goals.
He said speaking on Amazon Prime: “Hopefully not the least one but I’m very proud of it. I wasn’t focused on it before the game.
“They have a really good game plan and they were unbeaten for 21 games so they’re a quite tough team. I’m glad we managed to win that game.”
When questioned about whether he plans to remain at Liverpool to further his remarkable goal tally, with his contract due to expire in the summer, Salah replied, “I’m not sure about that, but I’ll give it my best.”
The 32-year-old now shares ninth place with Thierry Henry on the Champions League’s all-time scoring chart, boasting 51 goals. Of these, 45 were netted for Liverpool, one for Roma, and five for Basel.
Speaking on his goal, Salah added: “We got the ball and Curtis [Jones] played the ball very well finally and I managed to score.
“Not switched off but they went to counter-attack and managed to score. The clean sheet is very important to us and our backline.”
Liverpool remain at the top of their Champions League group and need only a point from their final match against PSV to secure first place.
