Arne Slot Confirms Liverpool Duo Out for “Weeks” as Reds Handed Fresh Injury Blow
Liverpool will be without Diogo Jota and Joe Gomez for several weeks, as coach Arne Slot disclosed the severity of their injuries.
Jota missed the squad for the Reds’ 2-0 victory over Brentford on Saturday, having sustained an issue following the draw against Nottingham Forest a few days earlier.
On the other hand, Gomez has been sidelined since late 2024 due to a hamstring injury and has not featured in any matches since.
Slot explained that Jota “overloaded a certain muscle” during his substitute appearance last week but anticipates the Portuguese forward will return to action before centre-back Gomez. Despite this, the Dutch coach assured that neither player’s recovery would extend into months.
“Maybe Jota [will be back] a bit earlier than Joe. Both of them are expected to be back with us in weeks rather than months,” he said at a press conference.
“But I’ve said many times before that the last stage of rehab is the most difficult one, or the one that sometimes [can] add a few days or not. It’s clear that we are expecting them to be back with us in the upcoming weeks.
“It is always difficult to say exactly how long it is. Both of them are not going to be out for months, that’s for sure, as long as the rehab goes as planned.”
Slot will have to manage without the duo as his team prepares for a Champions League clash with Lille on Tuesday, followed by a Premier League fixture against Ipswich.
