“Closely Monitoring…” – Transfer Expert Says Liverpool Now Eyeing “Magnificent” Star for Arne Slot

Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, who delivered a spectacular goal in a 4-1 triumph over Newcastle United last weekend, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Arne Slot has crafted a high-performing squad at Anfield this season, but concerns linger over the left-back position. Andy Robertson, now 30, is gradually approaching the twilight of his career, while Konstantinos Tsimikas, at 28, does not appear to be a viable long-term successor for the Scottish defender.

By the conclusion of the season, Robertson will have only a year remaining on his contract. Liverpool have shown a willingness to let player contracts run down, as demonstrated with Mohamed Salah, 32, Virgil van Dijk, 33, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, 26.

Even if Robertson, a Scotland international with 80 caps, opts to extend his tenure, the club will eventually need to find his replacement.

Kerkez could potentially fill that void for Liverpool. The ‘magnificent’ 21-year-old left-back has been in outstanding form for Bournemouth this season, contributing two goals and three assists in 23 appearances across all competitions for Andoni Iraola’s in-form Cherries.

One of those goals came during Bournemouth’s emphatic 4-1 away victory over Newcastle on Saturday, January 18. Kerkez scored the fourth goal for the visitors at St James’ Park, capping off a memorable performance. While Justin Kluivert received widespread acclaim for his hat-trick, Kerkez’s contribution was equally significant.

The transfer expert Fabrizio Romano acknowledged Bournemouth’s victory and provided insight into Kerkez’s status, noting his potential as a standout talent for the future.

“Not only Kluivert show… as Milos Kerkez scores for Bournemouth and he keeps performing at top level this season. Manchester United and Liverpool are both closely monitoring his progress.”

Iraola will be determined to retain Kerkez for at least the remainder of the season, as Bournemouth find themselves in contention for European qualification.

Their victory on Tyneside propelled them to 7th place in the league, just one point behind fourth-placed Manchester City.

Kerkez still has more than three years left on his contract at the Vitality Stadium. The Hungarian defender joined Bournemouth from Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar in July 2023 for a reported fee of £15.5 million.

If Liverpool decide to pursue Kerkez, they are likely to face competition from Manchester United. Additionally, Slot is reportedly interested in Kerkez’s teammate Antoine Semenyo, who has been excelling on both wings for Bournemouth.

The 25-year-old Ghanaian forward has contributed six goals and three assists in 21 Premier League appearances this season.
