Harvey Elliott Makes Decision on Leaving Liverpool After Arne Slot Meeting
Harvey Elliott has struggled to secure consistent playing time under Liverpool manager Arne Slot this season.
The 21-year-old has addressed speculation surrounding his future at the club, which has seen him linked with a potential January move away from Anfield.
So far, Elliott has made just 11 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions, with Slot preferring players like Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones in the No. 10 position.
Earlier in the season, a foot injury sidelined Elliott for a period, and since his recovery, his involvement in Premier League matches has been limited to substitute appearances.
This pattern continued over the weekend when Elliott came off the bench to contribute to Liverpool’s crucial victory against Brentford, earning the team valuable points in their title race.
Despite reported interest from clubs like Brighton and Borussia Dortmund, Elliott has expressed his determination to remain at Liverpool and play a key role in their pursuit of Premier League glory for the remainder of the season.
The boyhood Liverpool fan said after the 2-0 victory in west London: “Liverpool is my club. Liverpool is my team. I want to fight for my place, fight for my position in the team.
“It’s down to me to put in the effort, the hard work, the desire, to make that achievement. I am not going to give up, I am going to keep fighting.”
Elliott disclosed that he has discussed his playing time with Slot, acknowledging his desire for more opportunities but expressing his patience to wait for the right moment.
He added: “We’ve had those conversation but it’s not just me. There are other lads in the team who maybe haven’t played as much as they want and are probably doing the same thing.
“I just have to keep working hard, keep trying to help the team out whenever I’m needed and just wait for my opportunity. I don’t expect to come in and play straight away. I want to help my team out as much as I can and the club and give everything I can.”
Elliott’s impact as a substitute against Brentford caught attention, with Slot commending the former Fulham prodigy during his post-match analysis.
The Dutchman said: “I was [delighted Elliott’s performance when he came on] and I’m happy we give you a chance to ask another question!
“All the other interviews, there was a lot of focus on Darwin [Nunez] because he scored two goals and every time I said, ‘Yeah, but don’t forget Harvey – he had a big impact on both goals as well.’
He added: “It’s so nice for me, for us as a team, that I have players that can impact the game on the bench as well. This happened at [Nottingham] Forest with [Diogo] Jota and Kostas [Tsimikas] and today with Harvey and with Darwin.”
Liverpool are set to resume action midweek with a Champions League clash against Lille at Anfield.
