Darwin Nunez Makes Emotional Admission After Scoring Brace to Help Liverpool Extend Their Lead at the Top of the PL Table to Six Points

Darwin Nunez has admitted that he is “going through a rough patch” after netting two goals for Liverpool in their match against Brentford.

Despite a determined defensive performance from Thomas Frank’s team, Brentford eventually yielded to Liverpool’s relentless attacking pressure.

The Reds recorded an astonishing 37 shots during the game, with Nunez stepping up as the match-winner by scoring two injury-time goals to secure a hard-fought 2-0 victory for the Premier League leaders.

Nunez has recently been under intense scrutiny due to his inconsistent performances in front of goal. Before his brace against Brentford, the Uruguayan forward had managed just four goals in 26 appearances across all competitions.

This dip in form fuelled speculation that Liverpool might consider selling the striker in the upcoming January transfer window.

After the match, Nunez spoke openly about his recent struggles and the psychological challenges he has been grappling with. In a heartfelt interview with Sky Sports, he shared his thoughts on the situation.

“I think you have to stay mentally strong, never give up. Yes, there are moments that are very difficult for us players, for me, it’s right now. But I never throw the towel in. I always carry on working.

“In training, if I need to stay and practice more, I stay to improve. I think the work that I do on the pitch to help the team to defend as well. I think I’ve always done it well but I haven’t scored goals and I know people look at that. The striker has to score goals.”

Admitting his challenging period, Nunez highlighted the significance of resilience and staying mentally strong: “The truth is that I’m going through a rough patch and, like I said before, I stay focused on my job and giving everything for Liverpool.

“I think it’s important to keep my head up and I always say I’ve got to work because I need to improve. I stay strong with this mentality and with the support of my family and the fans that are incredible.”
