‘Not Available’ – Latest Update Confirms Seven Players to Miss Liverpool’s Game Against Brentford
Liverpool and Brentford team news ahead of the Premier League fixture at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Liverpool will be aiming for their first Premier League victory of the new year when they visit Brentford on Saturday, with the match set for a 3pm GMT kick-off.
The Reds remain at the top of the league table, with the title still theirs to win. However, after dropping points in a draw against Manchester United and coming from behind to secure a 1-1 draw at third-placed Nottingham Forest, their lead has been reduced to four points. Arsenal’s recent 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur has further increased the pressure.
Despite the setback, it is not yet time for alarm. Liverpool’s head coach remains composed as the team prepares for a challenging encounter against Brentford.
The Bees, currently 10th, have excelled at home, securing 23 of their 28 points at the Gtech Community Stadium. Their resilience was evident in their last match, where they fought back from a two-goal deficit to secure a 2-2 draw against reigning champions Manchester City.
Liverpool claimed a 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture at Anfield in August and enjoyed a 4-1 win in this corresponding fixture last season. As the teams prepare to meet again, here is the latest team news for both sides.
Brentford Team News
Ethan Pinnock – out
The key Brentford centre-back has a hamstring issue and remains unavailable.
Aaron Hickey – out
The right-back required hamstring surgery in August and he may not play against this campaign.
Josh Dasilva – out.
The midfielder is still recovering from a long-term knee issue.
Igor Thiago – out
Brentford’s website says that the £30 million summer signing has a joint infection.
Kristoffer Ajer – out
The defender has been absent for around three weeks with an ankle complaint and remains on the treatment table.
Gustavo Nunes – out
The forward is still to play for the Bees since signing from Gremio in the summer because of a back injury. Frank said at his pre-match press conference: “It’s not that I don’t want him back, but he is not available for the weekend. I know the medical team is taking good care of him.”
Liverpool Team News
Joe Gomez – out
The centre-back is currently Liverpool’s only player on the injury list. Gomez is dealing with a hamstring problem and remains some way off from regaining full fitness. The England international had been enjoying a strong run in his preferred position during Ibrahima Konate’s absence.
Darwin Nunez – return
The striker is back in contention after missing the Forest match due to a one-game suspension for accumulating five yellow cards.
This season, Nunez has picked up more bookings than goals, with just four to his name, and has fallen down the pecking order. However, he did score a spectacular goal in this fixture last season.
