Liverpool Make January Transfer Decision on Right-back as Club ‘Strike a Deal’

Liverpool continue to work their way through the challenges of the winter transfer window. Anfield has become the centre of attention, with the media closely analysing the Reds’ January transfer activities.

The primary focus remains on whether Trent Alexander-Arnold will pledge his long-term future to his boyhood club or opt for a move to Real Madrid, trading the famous red shirt for their iconic white.

With only six months left on his current contract, Alexander-Arnold’s future is shrouded in uncertainty.

Similarly, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are nearing the end of their contracts, although reports indicate both are eager to extend their stay on Merseyside beyond the summer.

Speculation has also turned to how Arne Slot might adapt the team if Alexander-Arnold departs. Conor Bradley has emerged as a strong candidate to fill the void, with the 21-year-old putting in standout performances recently. Sadly, the same cannot be said for Calvin Ramsay.

The young right-back from Aberdeen joined Liverpool in 2022, with high expectations as a future star under Jurgen Klopp. However, a loan spell intended to accelerate his development has not gone as planned, leaving his progress stalled.

Liverpool Make Decision on Calvin Ramsay

Liverpool recently recalled Calvin Ramsay from Wigan Athletic after another challenging loan spell. Since joining the Reds from Aberdeen in 2022, the young defender has faced recurring injury problems and struggled to make a significant impact during his loan assignments.

Following his return, Liverpool immediately began searching for a new opportunity for Ramsay. According to Record Sport, Kilmarnock are now poised to sign the 21-year-old on loan.

The report suggests the Scottish Premiership club has reached an agreement with Liverpool for a deal that will keep Ramsay at Rugby Park until the end of the season. The move is expected to be finalised later this week.

It is understood that Ramsay also attracted interest from EFL League One and League Two clubs. However, Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes successfully persuaded him to return to Scotland.

Ramsay One for the Future Under Klopp

Ramsay has endured a challenging period recently, struggling to make his mark. The right-back managed only eight League One appearances for Wigan Athletic this season before being recalled by Liverpool.

His previous stints with Preston North End and Bolton Wanderers were similarly unproductive, prompting the club to seek another opportunity for him to prove himself.

Former manager Jurgen Klopp had high hopes for Ramsay during his tenure at Liverpool, envisioning the young defender thriving at Anfield.

“He is an outstanding talent. We scouted him over a lot of games and he did exceptionally well. For a young age — the way he plays — he is a real player. He is really involved in everything. He’s a real talent and I am really excited about him.

“When he arrived here, he had this issue with the back so he was out. Now I’ve seen him two or three times training, but it is the first few sessions. Now we know much more about him as a boy.

“He is outstanding, well-educated, friendly – a really good boy. Now we start working, that’s it. How it is for all of them in that age group: the sky is the limit.

“The start of his career was really good. Now we had that little interruption, but we are not done. We have to make sure we can work with him as much to give him the best chance of having the best possible career.”
