Offer Made: Liverpool Make £40m+ Bid to Sign “One-man Army in Midfield” Ahead of Man City
Liverpool are said to have submitted a £41 million bid for a Champions League-winning midfielder who has previously been described as a “one-man army in midfield,” edging ahead of Manchester City in the race for his signature.
During the summer transfer window, the Reds made significant efforts to secure Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, viewing him as an ideal deep-lying addition to bolster their midfield.
However, the Spanish international ultimately chose to remain with his current club, leaving Liverpool without reinforcements in that position.
Fortunately for Liverpool, their existing midfield options have performed exceptionally well this season.
Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister have formed an impressive partnership in a double pivot role, while Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones have brought creativity and flair to the No.10 position.
Despite their midfield strength, Liverpool continue to be linked with potential new signings in that area, with Zubimendi reportedly still on their radar despite the disappointment of his previous rejection.
Another name being considered is VfB Stuttgart’s Enzo Millot. The 22-year-old has emerged as a key figure for the Bundesliga side, contributing six goal involvements — four goals and two assists — in 12 league starts this season, making him an exciting long-term prospect for the Reds.
Liverpool Make £41m Offer for Midfield Ace
According to a report from Spain, Liverpool have submitted a £41 million bid for Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni as they aim to outmanoeuvre Manchester City in securing his signature.
The proposed deal is said to involve an initial payment of £29 million, with the remaining balance to be settled next season, reflecting Liverpool’s ambition to further strengthen their midfield dominance.
Back in 2022, Tchouameni was heavily linked with a move to Anfield, especially as Liverpool sought to rejuvenate their midfield with Fabinho and Jordan Henderson approaching the latter stages of their careers. However, the Frenchman chose to join Real Madrid from Monaco instead.
Although the 24-year-old has enjoyed notable success at the Santiago Bernabeu, including lifting the Champions League trophy last season, he hasn’t always been a guaranteed starter under Carlo Ancelotti. This limited role might make a fresh challenge at Liverpool an appealing prospect.
Football talent scout Jacek Kulig once described Tchouameni during his Monaco days as a “one-man army in midfield,” highlighting his commanding presence on the pitch. Similarly, Paul Pogba has previously spoken highly of the midfielder, further emphasising his exceptional talent.
“It was a pleasure to play next to him. He brings a lot of energy. A lot of energy, extraordinary technical and physical quality.”.
Some might argue that Liverpool don’t require additional signings, considering the impressive quality they’ve displayed this season. However, a specialist in the No.6 role could offer Arne Slot a different option compared to players like Gravenberch and Mac Allister, who tend to have a more attack-oriented style.
Securing Tchouameni ahead of Manchester City would also be a significant bonus, allowing Liverpool to strengthen their squad while simultaneously undermining a key rival.
