“Almost in Tears”: Liverpool Told One Player is Really Messing with the Club Behind the Scenes
Mohamed Salah is currently delivering some of the finest performances of his Liverpool career, elevating his game to new heights under Arne Slot’s management.
The Egyptian forward has been instrumental in leading Liverpool’s charge at the top of both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League, while also keeping their domestic cup ambitions firmly on track.
Off the pitch, Salah has been equally vocal as his contract negotiations with the club edge towards a crucial resolution.
In light of Salah’s recent public statement, Craig Burley has now shared his perspective on the situation.
Craig Burley Says Mo Salah is Holding Liverpool to Huge Ransom
Earlier this season, Mohamed Salah expressed his disappointment with Liverpool after not being offered a new contract at the time.
Currently, the Egyptian, alongside Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, has been presented with a new deal. However, none of the trio are any closer to putting pen to paper.
As Salah’s contract nears its expiration, he stated yesterday that this season could be his last at Liverpool—a statement that remains factually accurate given no extension has been agreed upon.
Naturally, his remarks sparked widespread debate among fans and pundits, with many weighing in on the situation.
When asked about Salah’s comments, Craig Burley suggested that the Egyptian is expertly using his public declarations to strengthen his position in contract negotiations with Liverpool.
“The Liverpool executives – they are lying on the floor at the moment,” said Burley on ESPN FC.
“They’re almost in tears because they’ve probably made this guy the most magnificent offer and he is screwing them to the ground. He doesn’t have to say anything.
“There’s a big game this weekend – he could have let his representatives say yay or nay behind the scenes.
“He’s not serving the ball back over the net to Liverpool, he’s throwing a hundred balls up and serving an ace with every one of them.
“He’s holding Liverpool to a huge ransom at this moment so this is a very difficult scenario financially.”
Liverpool are well aware they cannot afford to lose a player of Mohamed Salah’s calibre. However, as the highest-paid player in the club’s history, finding a compromise that satisfies both parties remains a challenging task.
Given his exceptional form this season, Salah will likely seek a salary increase. At the same time, Liverpool must consider that the forward will turn 33 in a few months, which could influence their decision-making.
With Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also nearing the end of their contracts, Liverpool face an incredibly difficult situation. Securing the futures of arguably their three most vital players will require significant effort in the months ahead.
