“Looking at This Team” – Ruud van Nistelrooy Makes Liverpool Title Claim and Names Player “Still Improving”

Liverpool secured an impressive 3-1 victory over Leicester City, extending their lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Ruud van Nistelrooy has expressed confidence in Liverpool’s chances of clinching the Premier League title after their commanding performance against Leicester City.

The Reds’ triumph saw them open up a seven-point gap at the top of the table following their win at Anfield. Despite falling behind early, when Jordan Ayew found the net in the sixth minute for the struggling Foxes, Liverpool responded strongly.

Cody Gakpo levelled the score for Arne Slot’s side just before the break, setting the stage for Curtis Jones and Mo Salah to secure victory with goals in the second half.

Although more than half of the season remains, Liverpool now enjoy a significant advantage over second-placed Chelsea, who have played an additional game.

Van Nistelrooy, who lifted the Premier League trophy with Manchester United in 2003, believes Liverpool have what it takes to go the distance this season. When asked whether the Reds can secure the title, the Leicester manager responded:

“You never know in the Premier League and many things have happened before, but looking at this team and how stable they are and the depth of their squad they have a great chance.”

Gakpo scored his 10th goal of the season against Leicester with a brilliant strike, cutting inside and unleashing a powerful shot from outside the box into the top corner.

The Dutch forward, who previously played under Van Nistelrooy at PSV Eindhoven, joined Liverpool in January 2023 in a deal potentially worth £44 million. When asked about Gakpo on Amazon Prime, Van Nistelrooy responded:

“He’s here now for a while already. He developed and got used to the level, got used to the Premier League and Champions League. He’s still improving a lot and he made big steps.”
