Fabrizio Romano Shares What He’s Now Hearing on Liverpool and Trent Alexander-Arnold
Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future remains uncertain as the England international approaches the end of his contract this summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter, while Liverpool are actively working to secure a new deal for the defender, Real Madrid continue to keep him “high on their list” as they consider a potential move.
Alexander-Arnold, a mainstay in Liverpool’s first team since his debut in October 2016, made his 330th appearance for the club during Wednesday night’s match against Southampton.
Renowned for his exceptional playmaking, set-piece proficiency, and assist tally, the academy graduate has been a crucial figure for the Reds. Now 26 years old, he is entering the prime years of his career.
Romano Says ‘No Breakthrough’ on Alexander-Arnold Situation
The full-back’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
Over the years, Alexander-Arnold has established himself as one of the world’s top full-backs, alongside teammate Andy Robertson, and is widely regarded as one of the most creative players in football.
However, with less than a year remaining on his current deal, it is no surprise that his talent has attracted significant interest.
Liverpool are also facing uncertainty over the futures of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, whose contracts are also due to expire next summer. This has left fans anxious about the possibility of losing all three players.
Fabrizio Romano has further fuelled those concerns in his GIVEMESPORT newsletter, revealing that despite Liverpool’s efforts, there has been no breakthrough in negotiations for Alexander-Arnold’s new deal.
“Real Madrid keep Alexander-Arnold high on their list as said in March, but no breakthrough at this stage. Liverpool are still working on all 3 cases.”
Losing Van Dijk and Salah would undoubtedly be a blow for Arne Slot. However, with Salah turning 33 and the Dutch centre-back reaching 34 by the start of next season, their careers are naturally nearing their latter stages. While retaining them would still be beneficial, their remaining years at the top level are limited.
In contrast, Alexander-Arnold has recently turned 26 and has the prime of his career ahead of him. Securing his future should be a top priority for FSG, not only to ensure his contributions on the pitch but also to preserve his significant market value.
