Marcus Rashford Could Help Mohamed Salah Stay at Liverpool as New Man Utd Details Emerge
Manchester United’s Rashford could aid Liverpool in keeping Mohamed Salah at the club beyond this season.
Manchester United star Marcus Rashford might inadvertently help Liverpool retain Mohamed Salah at Anfield, according to a recent report.
Salah’s current contract with Liverpool is set to expire next summer, alongside the contracts of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk.
The Egyptian forward recently hinted at uncertainty over his future, stating after Liverpool’s 3-2 victory against Southampton last month that he was “more out than in” at the club and had not yet received a contract extension offer.
Subsequently, David Ornstein of The Athletic reported that Liverpool have now extended offers to all three players whose contracts are set to expire. However, there has been no confirmation of any agreement being close for any of the trio.
Sky Sports senior reporter Melissa Reddy has suggested that there is optimism surrounding the futures of both Salah and Van Dijk at the club, while Alexander-Arnold’s contract negotiations are expected to be more complex, given reported interest from Real Madrid.
Interestingly, Salah’s future could be secured with help from an unexpected source. The Telegraph reports that Manchester United are contemplating the sale of Marcus Rashford as part of new manager Ruben Amorim’s squad overhaul.
The report claims that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are interested in signing Rashford, while a potential move to Saudi Arabia’s Pro League has also been mentioned.
Notably, both PSG and Saudi clubs have previously been linked with Salah, but their interest in Rashford might indicate a shift in focus away from the Liverpool star.
Salah, who turns 34 in June, has been a cornerstone of Liverpool since his arrival in 2017. Reports from The Daily Mirror suggest that Liverpool may break tradition by offering him a multi-year contract extension despite his age.
The duration of the contract, rather than his salary, is said to be the central point of negotiations with the Egyptian forward. If successful, the new deal could extend Salah’s Anfield stay to a decade.
