“I’m Not Sure”: Jamie Carragher Predicts Liverpool Star to Leave Next Year After Watching Him vs Newcastle United
Liverpool faced Newcastle United away in a crucial Premier League match, aiming to secure a vital win after defeating Manchester City on Sunday.
This encounter marked the Reds’ second of ten fixtures scheduled for December. With a strong opportunity to widen the gap at the top of the table, Liverpool entered St. James’ Park with a comfortable nine-point lead over second-placed Arsenal.
Mohamed Salah was on the brink of achieving a historic milestone, needing just one goal against Newcastle to cement his place in the record books.
Securing a victory in this game could prove as significant as their impressive 2-0 triumph over City, especially with Liverpool’s title ambitions set to be rigorously tested throughout the month.
However, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher suggested that one of the team’s players might leave the club next year, sharing his thoughts after observing their performance against Newcastle.
Darwin Nunez Tipped to Leave Liverpool Next Year Despite “Cult Hero” Status
During an appearance on The Overlap, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher shared his thoughts on Darwin Nunez’s future at Anfield.
Carragher predicted that the Uruguayan forward might depart the club next year if he continues to fall short of the expectations tied to his hefty transfer fee.
Paul Merson also weighed in on Nunez’s performances, particularly criticising his display against Real Madrid. The former Benfica striker has struggled to deliver the goals many anticipated when Liverpool invested significantly in him back in 2022.
Carragher further suggested that this season could mark the end of Nunez’s time at Liverpool unless he undergoes a remarkable turnaround by 2025. Despite showing flashes of brilliance and energy, the South American forward has yet to consistently impress in the Premier League.
Carragher said when asked about Nunez’s future at Liverpool: “I’m not sure he’s here next year, I think he’ll probably move on. He’s more like a cult hero because he’s a bit mad and he likes to run around, but he’s better than [Divock] Origi.”
Darwin Nunez arrived at Liverpool two years ago amid high expectations, with many hoping he would follow in the footsteps of Luis Suarez and establish himself as the Reds’ long-term attacking star.
Now in his third season at Anfield, Nunez faces a pivotal moment in his Premier League journey. This campaign is seen as a make-or-break opportunity for the forward, who has yet to reach the level of performance anticipated from the former Benfica standout.
Nunez’s contributions this season have been underwhelming, leaving much to be desired. If the Uruguayan fails to meet the club’s expectations by the end of the campaign, Liverpool may consider parting ways with the striker.
