Carlo Ancelotti Makes Real Madrid “Superiority” Claim in Honest Verdict After Liverpool Defeat
Liverpool secured a decisive 2-0 victory over Real Madrid in their Champions League clash.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti accepted the defeat, acknowledging Liverpool’s dominance in the match. The Reds showcased an impressive performance, extending their flawless campaign in this season’s Champions League.
At Anfield, Liverpool controlled the game from the start, but their breakthrough came in the 52nd minute when Alexis Mac Allister found the back of the net. Shortly after, Real Madrid earned a penalty, yet Kylian Mbappe’s effort was denied by Liverpool’s goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher.
Liverpool later missed a chance to extend their lead when Mo Salah’s penalty went wide. However, they doubled their advantage in the 76th minute with Cody Gakpo’s well-placed header.
This victory keeps Liverpool at the top of their Champions League group, marking their fifth consecutive win in the tournament. They also maintain an eight-point lead in the Premier League standings.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid, the reigning European champions and record 15-time winners, are struggling in this season’s competition.
Currently placed 24th, they face the possibility of an early exit. Ancelotti remarked that while his team demonstrated strength in transitional play, they failed to capitalise on those moments.
The Santiago Bernabeu boss said: “The result was the right one. Liverpool deserved to win because they have good momentum, they are in form and playing with intensity.
“We held our own in the first half, but we made some poor decisions with our final pass. We competed and fought until the penalty. I’m satisfied that the team competed well.”
“We have to continue like this and this is the way forward. We’ve become competitive again and we’ve made sacrifices. There are things to improve, but we’re going to improve and that’s it.
“I have no regrets about the approach. The idea was to defend well and come out from the back with the ball. We had superiority in four or five transitions. The approach was fine.
“Today’s game was not decisive because even if we’d won it would have been difficult to reach the top eight. We have to reach the top 24 and finish as high up as possible. We’re going to make it to the top 24 and compete like last year.”
