Mohamed Salah Gives Verdict on $63 million Star Rumoured as His Replacement at Liverpool
Mohamed Salah has shared his thoughts on international teammate Omar Marmoush as the Eintracht Frankfurt forward continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool.
Salah has expressed his desire for comparisons between himself and Marmoush to stop, although the Liverpool star has acknowledged his teammate’s impressive form this season.
Marmoush has made headlines by becoming the second player in Europe to reach double figures for goals and assists this season, following in Salah’s footsteps. The 25-year-old has netted 14 goals and provided 10 assists in just 16 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt.
This outstanding performance has sparked transfer rumours, with Liverpool reportedly among the clubs most interested in securing Marmoush’s signature.
According to The Metro, the forward could be available for approximately $63 million (£50 million/€60 million), though his price is expected to rise if his exceptional form continues.
Marmoush’s stellar season, combined with his role as Salah’s international teammate, has led to comparisons between the two players.
He has even been suggested as a potential successor to Salah at Liverpool, especially as the 32-year-old approaches the final months of his current contract at Anfield.
Despite these rumours, there remains the possibility of Salah extending his stay at Liverpool, which could pave the way for both players to feature together at both club and international levels.
The Reds talisman though isn’t too keen on the comparisons being made between the two.
“Omar Marmoush, incredibly talented and currently a key player for his club and the national team,” Salah said at the Sharjah International Book Fair, according to Egyptian outlet WinWin.
“But I hope he can stay away from comparisons because they will keep putting him under constant pressure.
“I just want him to avoid the idea of comparisons. People need to stop comparing him to me, saying he’s ‘the new Salah’ and that he’ll do what I did or even better, this doesn’t help him; it only puts him under constant pressure.
“You can’t compare him to a player who has achieved so much over the years while he’s just starting out. Let him live his own experience and enjoy it. He’s doing something different, in his own unique way.”
Regardless of Salah’s preferences, comparisons with Marmoush are likely to persist, particularly if Liverpool’s reported interest remains strong.
However, Eintracht Frankfurt appear unfazed by the possibility of losing their standout player, as sporting director Markus Krosche recently dismissed the transfer speculation.
“I’m obviously pleased that he’s still scoring,” Krosche said. “I think Omar feels comfortable here so we shouldn’t always discuss the transfer window or possible transfers.”
