Brighton Boss Fabian Hurzeler Liverpool “Luck” Admission After Second Defeat in Four Days

Liverpool secured a 2-1 win against Brighton, propelling them to the top of the Premier League standings.

Fabian Hurzeler, Brighton’s head coach, expressed disappointment over his team’s misfortunes, marking their second defeat to Liverpool within the same week.

The latest match saw the Reds triumph 2-1 at Anfield on Saturday, following a 3-2 victory over Brighton in the Carabao Cup earlier in the week at the AMEX Stadium.

In the first half of this latest encounter, Brighton demonstrated dominance and should have taken a more substantial lead, with Ferdi Kadioglu scoring in the 14th minute.

However, Liverpool made significant improvements after the break, leveling the score in the 69th minute thanks to Cody Gakpo’s angled cross that found the far corner.

Just three minutes later, Mo Salah delivered a classic strike, clinching all three points for the hosts and elevating them to the top of the Premier League following Manchester City’s surprising loss to Bournemouth.

Hurzeler noted that Brighton had failed to be ruthless in their previous Carabao Cup match and again in this encounter just four days later. He reflected on the week’s challenges, stating:

“We can repeat it again. It’s the second, maybe the third bad experience in one week. We gave away a 2-0 lead against Wolverhampton. We played very well in the Carabao Cup against Liverpool and here, but in the end, we played three games and earned only one point.

“We could have been more ruthless and, to be honest, you need a bit more luck. To win at Anfield, sometimes you need the luck and when we saw the cross for the first goal, the luck was on their side.

“On the other side, in the right moments, the referee gives the 0-0 duels to you and that’s all part of the game when you want to get the result. In the end, we lost.
