“Out of Nowhere” – Brighton Boss Fabian Hurzeler Makes Liverpool Admission After Carabao Cup Defeat

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler shared his reaction to his team’s 3-2 loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup. The match was a thrilling fourth-round contest held on Wednesday evening at the Amex Stadium.

Following the game, Hurzeler admitted that his side were undone by an “unbelievable” goal from Cody Gakpo. The Liverpool forward’s stunning strike was a crucial factor in the Reds’ victory over Brighton.

Despite Liverpool controlling much of the ball in the first half, they lacked a natural striker and struggled to create meaningful opportunities before the break.

However, Gakpo made a decisive impact shortly after the interval. Less than a minute into the second half, he cut in from the left side and unleashed a powerful shot that found the far corner of the net, opening the scoring in emphatic style.

Gakpo went on to score a second goal in the game, with Luis Diaz adding another for Liverpool. Brighton, meanwhile, managed to respond with goals from Simon Adringa and Tariq Lamptey, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Liverpool from advancing.

“It’s disappointing to go out of this competition but Liverpool scored at the right moments.

“They scored out of nowhere, it was an unbelievable shot and they had timing on their side today.

“We weren’t able to reply in the right moment.

“We had a lot of positive things but we had negative things otherwise we wouldn’t lose. We have to analyse it.”

Mats Wieffer, a former player under Slot at Feyenoord, was included in Brighton’s starting lineup, despite his recent costly error that contributed to a 2-2 Premier League draw against Wolves for the Seagulls last weekend.

And Hurzeler added: “We saw a great reaction to his mistake on Saturday. It’s not easy to come back like this to show this character after that mistake, not being the best player against Wolves.

“He was asking for the ball, he wasn’t hiding, he made mistakes yes but he kept on asking for the ball. I’m sure he will help us this season.”
