Chris Sutton Now Drops Stance on Whether Liverpool are Man City’s Biggest Rival in the PL After Beating Chelsea

Liverpool secured another victory this weekend and now sit at the top of the Premier League table after eight games, sparking serious discussions about their potential to challenge for the title.

The Reds kicked off a challenging series of fixtures by defeating Chelsea, getting their tough run off to the best possible start.

In the aftermath of the win, Alan Shearer is one of the voices suggesting that Liverpool are now firmly in the title race.

However, the season is still long, and with teams like Arsenal and Aston Villa on the horizon in the coming weeks, Liverpool still have questions to answer.

Pundit Chris Sutton also weighed in on Liverpool’s title prospects, stating that it’s still too early to make a definitive judgment on whether the team is truly a title contender.

In response, Sutton hinted that it might be more appropriate to revisit the question next week.

“You’ve gone straight in there! Erm…I’m not sitting on the fence but aren’t we better to ask that question next week after Liverpool play Arsenal?,” Sutton said.

“I think that just in terms of Liverpool’s start to the season, they have surprised me. Surprised me because I didn’t see them showing this consistency under Arne Slot playing a slightly different way.

“But everyone’s looking at this group of games now, tougher fixtures, think they’ve got Arsenal, Brighton and Villa, and that will be a better time to judge.

“But they’re absolutely motoring, and you have to take your hat off to Arne Slot.”

Liverpool Can Challenge But Need to be Faultless

The Reds could have truly benefited from having VAR on their side during the weekend match against Wolves. Unfortunately, the opposite occurred, as we watched Manchester City receive a crucial decision in their favour.

As we’ve seen in past seasons, any mistake is often exploited by City, who are typically relentless in their pursuit of the Premier League title.

For Liverpool to come out on top this season, the team will likely need to avoid many defeats, keeping losses to a minimum.

With a home defeat to Nottingham Forest already on record, Liverpool don’t have much room for further errors.

Despite this, the Reds are still in contention. Based on their current form, there’s every reason to believe they can push Arsenal and City all the way to the final weeks of the campaign.
