Arne Slot Likens Rising Liverpool Star with a “Bright Future” to Trent Alexander-Arnold
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has expressed his belief that Conor Bradley holds a promising future at the club following his experience as captain for Northern Ireland.
During the October international break, Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill appointed Bradley as captain, using the opportunity to test his leadership qualities.
In their final UEFA Nations League game, Northern Ireland triumphed with a 5-0 victory over Bulgaria, where the 21-year-old Bradley delivered a dedicated and hardworking captain’s performance.
Slot, meanwhile, has consistently relied on right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold in the early part of the season, opting against a rotation policy for Liverpool’s defensive setup.
Liverpool’s form has been impressive, winning nine out of the 10 games they’ve played in all competitions so far this season. Bradley has only started in one of those matches—a 5-1 Carabao Cup win over West Ham United in September.
The 21-year-old has featured in six games across all competitions, mainly appearing as a late substitute for Alexander-Arnold. However, as Liverpool’s busy schedule intensifies after the October international break, Bradley is expected to take on a more significant role in the team.
During a pre-match press conference, as reported by Liverpoolfc.com, Slot emphasised the importance of Bradley to Liverpool’s long-term plans. He described the young defender as an integral part of the club’s future vision.
“I think it’s going to be a bright future for him because he’s a very good player and very good players [are] what we need here at Liverpool. He’s done – last season especially – really well when he had to replace Trent, and now Trent has played a lot.
“But he is a very good player and although he has big competition from Trent, normally very good players find their way into the team. That’s what I also expect with him in the future at this club.”
Liverpool are facing a particularly intense schedule, largely due to the high level of competition in their Champions League matches.
So far, the Reds have not faced any of the top-ranked teams, but these encounters are set to take place in conjunction with their Champions League commitments.
During this demanding period, players like Bradley, who have struggled to secure significant playing time, will be crucial. Coach Slot plans to implement a rotation policy to ensure that the team maintains both fitness and consistency in performance.
The 21-year-old Bradley could also step in as a right-back when Trent Alexander-Arnold is deployed in a central midfield role. Additionally, Bradley has the versatility to adapt to various roles as required by the head coach.
