“They Have a Lot”: Chelsea Legend Gianfranco Zola Drops Exciting Verdict on Federico Chiesa at Liverpool

Liverpool didn’t make many moves during the summer transfer window, but when they did, it grabbed people’s attention.

With Michael Edwards back at Liverpool, the Anfield supporters are well aware of his style and how he handles business in the transfer market.

So, it came as no surprise that with pre-season in full swing and August approaching, Liverpool had yet to announce a new signing.

This was despite Arne Slot replacing Jurgen Klopp, with fans expecting him to receive backing in the transfer market to make his own mark on the squad.

Ultimately, Liverpool made just two signings—Federico Chiesa from Juventus and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, though the latter was immediately loaned back.

The Chiesa deal was particularly notable as Liverpool only spent £10 million on a player once regarded as one of Italy’s brightest talents and a Euro 2020 champion.

Fans have already had a glimpse of the versatile forward, but due to injuries, he isn’t yet at 100%, leaving them hopeful for a turnaround in the coming months.

Gianfranco Zola would have witnessed Chiesa’s rise and slight dip at Juventus before his move to Anfield.

The Chelsea legend commented on the stiff competition Chiesa faces at Liverpool and expressed confidence that he will “certainly improve,” as mentioned in an interview with Hayters TV.

“Yes, (a good opportunity for Chiesa to get back into Italy set-up),” said Zola. “Playing in the Premier League is an opportunity for everyone, I can tell you by experience.

“Playing right now, with the type of football and the quality of football that you have here. It can only be a benefit. It will push Chiesa hard.

“Also, they (Liverpool) have a few strikers over there,” laughed Zola. “The point is that they have a lot of competition, but he will have his time and space. It will be down to him to use that time wisely. But he will certainly improve his position.”

Slot has had an impressive start at Liverpool, and supporters are beginning to think they might achieve the extraordinary.

Initially, with Slot newly appointed, many were simply aiming for a domestic trophy and securing their place in the Champions League.

However, Liverpool’s performances suggest they are capable of contending for the title this season, having suffered just one defeat so far.
