Caoimhin Kelleher Liverpool Future Claim Made as the Irish Set to Step in for Alisson Over the Next Seven Games

Caoimhin Kelleher is set to step in for the injured Alisson over the next seven games, providing a significant opportunity for the Irish goalkeeper.

Liverpool icon Mark Lawrenson sees this as a pivotal moment for Kelleher, who will be covering for the No. 1 keeper, sidelined due to a hamstring injury.

Mark Lawrenson has claimed Kelleher is potential departing Liverpool next summer. With the young goalkeeper taking on increased responsibilities in Alisson’s absence, his future at the club has come under speculation.

Despite stepping in for Liverpool, Kelleher recently faced criticism after making an error while on international duty, which led to a goal for Greece. Lawrenson, however, believes that with more game time, Kelleher will improve and learn from such mistakes.

Lawrenson also acknowledged that Liverpool may be preparing to bring in Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, suggesting that this could signal the end of Kelleher’s time at Anfield. While Kelleher has shown promise, the potential arrival of another goalkeeper might push him towards an exit from the club.

“Losing Alisson is a big blow for Liverpool,” he told Sports Casting. “He’s a big personality and arguably one of the top three keepers in world football.

“When Caoimhin Kelleher first came in he was trying to make saves he didn’t really have to make but once he was in for a while he became much better. He should try and make the most of these upcoming games.

“With Giorgi Mamardashvili coming in next season, they might go to Kelleher and say that they’re prepared to let him go at the end of the season, but he might even play more games this season than Alisson. It’s one of those things where we just need to watch this space.”

Adding to Liverpool’s concerns, contracts for Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk are up in the summer, potentially paving their way to foreign clubs from January.

“If Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold all left the club it’d be a very sorry day for Liverpool,” said Lawrenson. “You’d have to say all three are world-class players in key positions in the starting XI, so it’d be a real problem for Arne Slot going forwards.”

And Lawrenson believes Alexander-Arnold will join Real Madrid on a free transfer. He added: “I think Trent will go to Real Madrid to go and play with Jude Bellingham, and he’d be allowed to play wherever he wanted in that team.

“I can see it happening, I really hope it doesn’t though. He’s a well-educated guy and he’ll be thinking about going to Madrid and learning the language, earning good money, what’s there not to like?”
