Man City Star Names Liverpool as the Toughest Premier League Rivals
Manchester City have been dominant in the Premier League in recent years. Pep Guardiola’s team has secured four consecutive league titles, winning six out of the last seven English league championships.
However, their remarkable success hasn’t come as easily as their impressive trophy haul might suggest.
In fact, City have been tested to their limits in recent seasons by teams like Arsenal and Liverpool.
Arsenal came very close to claiming the league title last season, and they are once again being touted as contenders this year. Meanwhile, Liverpool have had numerous memorable encounters with City.
In an interview with Pro Direct Soccer, Bernardo Silva shared his thoughts on City’s toughest opponents, noting that Liverpool are the hardest team to face in the Premier League, ranking them ahead of Arsenal.
Bernardo Silva Names Liverpool as Toughest Premier League Rivals
Silva discussed Manchester City’s rivalry with Liverpool, noting that the Merseyside club have been their most challenging opponent. He also mentioned that he enjoys defeating Liverpool more than Manchester United, given the intensity of their recent rivalry.
“Who would you say your toughest opponent is in the Premier League?” Silva was asked.
“I always tend to go to Liverpool because I respect them a lot because of how good they are and how tough it was for us over the years to beat them. So Liverpool players are always the toughest I would say,’ Silva said.
“Who do you prefer to beat, Man United or Liverpool?” Silva was asked.
“As I said, Liverpool were our biggest rivals, I’ve been at Man City for seven years and a few months, and Liverpool were always the toughest, but I like beating Man United as well,” Silva said.
Bernardo Silva’s Stats Against Liverpool
Silva identifies Liverpool as his toughest opponents, and his record against the Reds is certainly intriguing.
In recent years, Liverpool and City have been closely matched, and the statistics reflect this.
Silva has faced Liverpool 18 times, with an even record of six wins, six losses, and six draws.
During these encounters, Silva has contributed three goals and three assists.
Although Silva considers Liverpool his toughest opponents, he is also well aware of Arsenal’s potential, noting last season that he anticipates the Gunners will once again compete for titles in the future.
“I know their manager very well because he was here with us, I know how demanding and how intelligent he is. If you look at their squad, they’re so young and, for sure, they’re very hungry to go after some titles, so no doubt,” Silva said.
Arsenal, Liverpool and City are all in the title race this season, and it will be interesting to see how this year’s battle unfolds.
