Former Manager Target May Have Accidentally Done Liverpool Huge Favour as New Real Madrid Plan Emerges

Xabi Alonso’s decision to remain at Bayer Leverkusen left many Liverpool fans heartbroken. However, with an alternative plan involving Trent Alexander-Arnold now emerging, Alonso’s choice might still benefit the Reds.

When Alonso withdrew himself from consideration as Jurgen Klopp’s successor, it was a significant blow to Liverpool supporters.

Having set new records and leading Bayer Leverkusen to their first-ever Bundesliga title, Alonso became one of the most sought-after managers in football world. His potential return to Anfield seemed like a dream scenario for many.

Despite this, Alonso chose to remain in Germany, while Liverpool shifted their focus to Arne Slot. Fortunately, that decision has worked out well for the Reds. However, the possibility of Alonso managing at Anfield in the future appears increasingly unlikely.

It seems there is little doubt about what Alonso’s next job might be. All signs point toward him taking on one of the most prestigious roles in European football – managing Real Madrid.

According to The Athletic, Alonso is a top contender to replace Carlo Ancelotti at some point. Moreover, Sport BILD suggested last month that a change could occur as soon as next summer, even though Ancelotti’s contract runs until 2026.

If Alonso does return to Real Madrid, he may bring one of his Leverkusen stars with him – a development that could indirectly benefit Liverpool.

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that Real Madrid are monitoring Jeremie Frimpong’s situation ahead of a possible transfer next summer.

The Netherlands international is reportedly one of the potential candidates for the Spanish giants as they seek a new right-back, and many believe another name on their list could be a familiar one to Liverpool fans.

With speculation surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future, there is a growing concern among Liverpool fans that their vice-captain might be heading to Real Madrid at the end of his current contract.

Soon, the 26-year-old will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club, should he choose not to extend his stay at Anfield.

Madrid’s interest in Jeremie Frimpong, however, may offer a glimmer of hope for Liverpool. While it remains uncertain, this potential shift could be significant.

Real Madrid have recently developed a habit of securing big names without spending large sums, with Kylian Mbappe being the most notable example.

If they can secure Alexander-Arnold for free in January, it would make little sense to spend $44 million (£33m/€40m) to activate Frimpong’s release clause.

If Real Madrid are eyeing Xabi Alonso as their next manager, targeting a player like Frimpong, who has excelled under Alonso’s guidance at Bayer Leverkusen, would align with their plans.

Frimpong has been a standout performer at Leverkusen, and this could make him a more attractive option for Real Madrid’s potential new era under Alonso.

Though this could all be speculative, Real Madrid’s interest in Frimpong might signal that Alexander-Arnold is leaning towards signing a new contract at Liverpool. If that happens, Alonso’s decision not to return to Anfield could turn out to be a major win for Liverpool.
