Wayne Rooney Shøcks Gary Neville With Arne Slot Remark That Liverpool Fans Will Agree With

Liverpool’s impressive start under their new manager, Arne Slot, has sparked debate on the latest Stick To Football podcast. The team’s early success has drawn attention, including from football icon Wayne Rooney.

Rooney specifically highlighted Liverpool as the Premier League team that has impressed him the most this season.

The Reds are currently at the top of the table after seven matches, having secured victories in six of them. This strong form comes despite the adjustment to life under Slot, who took over following the departure of Jurgen Klopp.

Many had predicted that Liverpool might face challenges following Klopp’s exit. However, the squad has proven capable of smoothly transitioning to Slot’s tactical approach.

As a result, Liverpool now seem poised to contend for the title alongside Arsenal and Manchester City, with hopes of remaining in the race until the final weeks of what has already been an eventful season.

Arne Slot has been praised for maintaining the high standards set by Klopp, with Rooney joining the list of those impressed by the Dutchman.

During an appearance on The Overlap, when asked which team had caught his attention this season, the former Manchester United captain responded, “I’d go Liverpool.

“I think with the manager coming in after Klopp, that was obviously big pressure and they look more solid. I think they’ve got a good solid base and the manager comes across well.”

Gary Neville was left surprised by this answer, responding: “Liverpool?!” After hearing Rooney’s remark, though, he also had some positive things to say about the Reds’ water-tight defensive unit.

“That back five, to be fair, has probably played together more than any other back five for a long time, it feels like,” added Neville.

“You’ve got [Andy] Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, [Ibrahima] Konate and [Virgil] Van Dijk. Some will say Konate’s not played every game but it feels like that back five, along with Alisson, is quite solid.”
