“My Information” – James Pearce Shares Something Important He’s Heard About Trent and Liverpool
According to The Athletic journalist James Pearce, Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has “zero chance” of leaving the club in the January transfer window.
Pearce dismissed recent rumors linking the homegrown star to Real Madrid in January as “absolute nonsense.”
Alexander-Arnold, who broke into Liverpool’s first team in 2017, has since developed into one of the world’s top attacking defenders. He is tied with teammate Andy Robertson for the most assists by a defender in Premier League history.
Despite his contract expiring at the end of the season, which has raised concerns among fans about his future, Pearce is confident that Alexander-Arnold won’t be departing this winter, calling such speculation “nonsense.”
Trent to Real Madrid Links are “Nonsense”
During an appearance on The Athletic’s ‘Walk On’ podcast, Pearce mentioned that there is ‘no chance’ of Alexander-Arnold leaving in January. While clubs are closely monitoring his future, contract discussions have yet to take place, and the situation remains unchanged. He added:
“There’s absolutely zero chance that Trent [Alexander-Arnold] will go anywhere in January. I mean, I saw some nonsense yesterday about Real Madrid planning a bid for him in January or something.
“I just don’t believe that’s true. And I certainly don’t believe it for a minute. [It’s] absolute nonsense.
“I mean, we’ve said previously many times, every top club in Europe will be keeping a very close eye on developments over Trent’s future, because my information at the moment is that there is no decision that’s been taken. Those talks are ongoing.”
Alexander-Arnold Would Be Liverpool’s Most Significant Loss
Many key players are approaching the end of their contracts, but his departure would be the most heartbreaking.
Alexander-Arnold isn’t the only crucial player whose contract is running out at Anfield. He is joined by seasoned defender Virgil van Dijk and prolific winger Mohamed Salah, leaving Reds supporters anxious about the potential loss of not just one but three of their top talents.

There is a strong argument that losing Alexander-Arnold would be the most significant loss among the trio.
While Salah has established himself as one of the top scorers in the club’s history and has maintained the form he displayed since 2017, his absence would be felt primarily in terms of goalscoring. However, it is important to note that Salah will turn 33 by the end of the season.
Van Dijk finds himself in a similar situation. Having been one of the top defenders globally for many years, he will turn 34 at the beginning of the next season, which raises questions about how much longer he can perform at the highest level.
In contrast, Alexander-Arnold will be only 26 at the start of next season, meaning he could potentially have another decade to play at the top level before experiencing a decline.
His departure would represent a significant loss not only in terms of his future value but also in the potential moments he could bring to Arne Slot’s side throughout his career in a red shirt.
