“Not Impossible”: Player Confirms Liverpool Interest in Him and Could Move in January
With the international break upon us, Liverpool will have no fixtures over the next two weeks.
This pause has led some to start considering what the January transfer window could bring for the club.
After a relatively quiet summer, Liverpool may need to be more active in the transfer market in 2025.
There is speculation that the club could target a new midfielder, and many fans are still eager for Arne Slot to bring in another defender.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s recruitment team remains alert. Though they may not frequently finalise deals, they consistently monitor a vast number of players.
One player who has recently drawn their attention is Daniel Svensson, a left-back from Nordsjaelland. The Swedish player has made some notable remarks about the rumoured interest from Liverpool.
Daniel Svensson Confirms Liverpool Interest
In late August, Liverpool were reportedly linked with Svensson, a 22-year-old described as a versatile midfielder with similarities to Eduardo Camavinga and Moises Caicedo.
However, in an interview with the Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen, Svensson clarified that his primary position is left-back, though he has been asked to play in midfield.
“If I have to choose, I prefer to play left-back. But I feel good in several positions,” he says.
Liverpool’s interest would be most logical in the full-back position. With Andy Robertson now over 30 and his contract expiring in 2026, the Reds are likely considering a long-term replacement for the Scottish defender.
Following his call-up to the senior Sweden squad for the October international fixtures, Svensson spoke about the possibility of a move to either Liverpool or Juventus, both of which have been linked to him.
“Great fun, of course,” he says. “It’s a sign that I’m doing something right and performing well. I just take it as fuel to drive on. Of course, it was a bit surreal. It was perhaps not entirely expected that I would read about it.
“I don’t know much about it,” Svensson admitted on Liverpool specifically. “I just know that they have seen some games and such. More than that, I don’t know.
“I’m in the fifth season now. The idea is that I’m going to move on relatively soon anyway,” he said when asked if he could soon leave Nordsjaelland in the New Year. “It’s absolutely not impossible, but it might be that I play the whole season and then move on.”
Many Liverpool fans may not be very familiar with Svensson. However, with the 22-year-old on the verge of becoming a full international, that is likely to change soon.
The young Swedish player has a fascinating profile. Given that Liverpool might be searching for both a left-back and a midfielder in the near future, Svensson is certainly someone worth keeping an eye on.
Despite his youth, Svensson already boasts considerable experience, having played in over 150 senior matches.
This level of experience is appealing to Liverpool, as the club tend to favour players who have a substantial amount of first-team football experience before moving to Anfield.
With Sweden set to face Slovakia on Friday, it might be a good opportunity for Reds fans to watch Svensson in action and get a better sense of his potential.
