“I Would Urge Fans” – Liverpool Supporters Told What to Do If Anfield Trio Leave for Free
Liverpool could be facing a significant challenge next summer, as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk are all set to become free agents.
The Liverpool trio have yet to sign new contracts, and it seems that Liverpool are no closer to securing fresh terms for Alexander-Arnold, Salah, and Van Dijk to ensure they remain on Merseyside beyond this season.
Salah has attracted strong interest from Saudi Arabia, while Van Dijk is also on the radar of Saudi Pro League clubs. Additionally, Real Madrid are targeting Alexander-Arnold. In this scenario, there is a realistic possibility that all three could leave Liverpool in 2025.
John Barnes has now called on Liverpool fans to take action if Alexander-Arnold, Salah, and Van Dijk all depart from the club.
John Barnes Tells Liverpool Fans to Respect the Club If Alexander-Arnold, Salah and Van Dijk Leave
On TalkSport, the Liverpool legend urged fans to show respect for the club if any of Alexander-Arnold, Salah, or Van Dijk decide not to renew their contracts and choose to depart Anfield next year.
Considering the significance of all three players to Liverpool, there is nearly a certainty that at least one of them will leave Merseyside. However, Barnes has asked fans to remain calm should that situation arise.
Barnes said how Liverpool fans should react if one of the club’s star players were to leave for free next summer: “I would urge fans not to have a go at the club and say: ‘Oh, they are lacking ambition by not keeping them.”
“Because if they are going to go, they will go. There’s not a lot that the club can do. They will offer them their best contracts, which they will do, and if they choose not to sign it, don’t be critical of the club.”
Liverpool Supporters Need to Respect the Club and Players in 2025
As Barnes noted, Liverpool are likely working tirelessly to retain all three players—Alexander-Arnold, Salah, and Van Dijk—beyond this season, with each of them fully aware of their immense popularity at Anfield.
Therefore, if one of them were to depart next summer in search of a new challenge, Liverpool fans owe it to these players and the club to show them the respect they deserve, given all that they have contributed over the past few years.
Regardless of what unfolds in the coming weeks, Alexander-Arnold, Salah, and Van Dijk will be remembered as modern legends of Liverpool. At this point in their careers, each has earned the right to determine their own future.
