Liverpool & Premier League Rival Race to Sign Sensation Who Darwin Nunez Recommended to the Reds ‘Recruitment Team

Liverpool and Brighton are reportedly keeping a close eye on Colombian rising star Clarens Culma Mejia, according to Football Insider.

At 20 years old, Culma Mejia, who can play as both a left-back and a central defender, is gaining recognition in South American football for his versatility and skills.

Scouts from both Premier League clubs have been impressed by the young Atletico Nacional defender. Notably, Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has been “wowed” by Culma Mejia’s abilities and has shared his admiration for the player.

Nunez has reportedly recommended Culma Mejia to Liverpool’s recruitment team based on his observations, and the club are now closely following the player’s development.

While neither Liverpool nor Brighton can make a move for him before the January transfer window, it is believed that Culma Mejia’s contract is nearing its expiration.

Brighton, who have conceded eight goals in the first six Premier League matches, are seeking to strengthen their defense. In contrast, Liverpool currently hold the best defensive record in the league, having allowed only two goals.

Liverpool are in Search of a Defender

Liverpool are actively seeking a new central defender, particularly in the event that Virgil van Dijk does not sign a contract extension.

The Dutch international’s current contract at Anfield is set to expire next summer. Should an agreement for a new deal not be reached, Van Dijk could leave on a free transfer.

According to Football Insider, Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has shown interest in Marc Guehi, and Liverpool might attempt to sign the Crystal Palace defender at a reduced price during the January transfer window.

In addition, Mejia’s versatility in covering multiple positions, along with his potential for further development, makes him a viable option for the club.

The report also states that Liverpool are planning to secure a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson at left-back, a position that Mejia could potentially fill.
