“He Has Got Pace” – Agbonlahor Names the “Outstanding” Liverpool Talent Who Has Been Unreal This Season

Liverpool’s midfield has played a significant role in the team’s impressive start to the season.

The past few years have been challenging in this area for Liverpool, but the summer of 2023 saw a major revamp that is now starting to yield positive results.

Last season was a period of adjustment as new signings like Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch were integrating into the squad.

Mac Allister and Szoboszlai adapted more quickly, while Endo found his stride a little later in the season.

Gravenberch, however, faced more challenges. Although the Dutch player occasionally displayed his potential, his performances lacked consistency.

Despite speculation about Gravenberch possibly being sold over the summer, the 22-year-old has returned to top form, and his resurgence has not gone unnoticed.

Gravenberch bagged another man of the match award for his performance against Wolves on Saturday.

While it may not have been one of his most standout displays of the season, and Ibrahima Konate felt he deserved the honour instead, Gravenberch still impressed at Molineux.

The fact that the No.38 has only missed one minute of Premier League action this season highlights his growing importance within Liverpool’s squad.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor praised Gravenberch’s performance against Wolves, even ranking him among the top three Premier League midfielders this season.

“I think apart from one game, he has been Man of the Match all season,” says Agbonlahor. “He has been outstanding.

“He didn’t get much game time under Klopp, but this season under Slot, he has had a lot of game time.

“He has got strength, he has got aggression, he has got pace, he has got skill, he has got running with the ball, he’s a unit, he has got the size for set pieces as well if needed.

For me, he is an outstanding midfielder,” adds the former England international. “And I am putting him in there as top three midfielders so far this season.

“An outstanding talent and just shows how strong Liverpool are in that department.”

During this busy period, Liverpool will not have much time to rest before their next match.

After playing in the West Midlands on Saturday evening, the Reds return to Anfield this Wednesday for a Champions League clash against Bologna.

Following a strong start in Europe two weeks ago, Liverpool will aim to build on that performance and secure their second victory, this time against Italian opposition.

However, Bologna are not at the same level as AC Milan. Currently, the Rossoblu are sitting 13th in the Serie A standings, while Milan occupies third place.

Because of this, it’s likely that Arne Slot will make some adjustments to his squad. With a trip to Crystal Palace scheduled for Saturday lunchtime, there’s a good chance that Gravenberch could be rested and start Wednesday’s game on the bench.
