Report: Liverpool Star Submits £117m Bid to Buy Football Club But Current Owner “Angry”
Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is considering a significant move into club ownership. Reports indicate that the Liverpool right-back is interested in acquiring Ligue 1 club FC Nantes.
Previously, he and his family had explored the idea of owning a club, and it seems a new opportunity has emerged, particularly following Kylian Mbappe’s recent investment as a major shareholder in Ligue 2 side SM Caen.
According to L’Equipe, Alexander-Arnold had earlier looked into purchasing AS Saint-Etienne but is now focused on FC Nantes.
A video conference took place between his group and the current owner, Waldemar Kita, who initiated discussions after a member of his team reached out to the defender to indicate that he was open to selling the club.
Kita has expressed frustration with his ownership of the French team and is eager to find a new ownership group, a sentiment conveyed to Alexander-Arnold and his family.
Following this, the defender presented an initial offer of £67 million, with an additional £16.7 million contingent on future performance.
The proposal also included potential add-ons valued at £33.5 million during Alexander-Arnold’s tenure at La Beaujoire Stadium.
In response, Kita sought an external audit of the club before ultimately rejecting the initial offer. A subsequent meeting was held on Thursday to further discuss the possibility of a deal.
The open nature of recent discussions has negatively impacted negotiations. Kita is allegedly rejecting claims of new talks regarding the sale of FC Nantes and is reportedly ‘furious’ about the publicity surrounding the situation.
The current owner is so upset with the ongoing ‘leaks’ that he has opted to terminate discussions with Alexander-Arnold and his team completely. It remains uncertain if these negotiations can be resumed in the future.
