Brand New Liverpool Headache Arne Slot Has to Cure Ahead of Bournemouth Clash

Liverpool manager Arne Slot faces a challenging decision ahead of his team’s upcoming clash against Bournemouth this weekend.

Slot seems to have a new selection headache at Liverpool. The Reds’ boss witnessed his side return to winning form on Tuesday night after suffering a defeat to Nottingham Forest over the weekend.

Liverpool triumphed 3-1 over AC Milan in the Champions League, delivering an impressive performance.

Milan took an early lead just three minutes into the game through Christian Pulisic. However, Liverpool responded with two headed goals from Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk, turning the game around before halftime.

Dominik Szoboszlai then sealed the victory in the 67th minute, which would have undoubtedly pleased Slot.

Several players stood out at the San Siro, particularly Cody Gakpo. Playing on the left side of Liverpool’s attacking trio, Gakpo made a strong case for more regular inclusion in the starting lineup under Slot’s management.

Slot has primarily relied on Luis Diaz in the early weeks of his tenure, and the Colombia international has rewarded his manager’s trust. However, Gakpo’s outstanding performance has introduced a new dilemma for the former Feyenoord boss.

Despite his impressive displays for the Netherlands at Euro 2024, Gakpo’s first start of the season came against Milan, having previously been limited to late substitute appearances.

Cody Gakpo demonstrated his abilities while playing as a winger, frequently troubling Milan defender Davide Calabria throughout the match. The Dutchman not only stretched the field with his runs in behind but also drifted inside several times to contribute to central play, which is more familiar territory for him.

Gakpo managed two shots on target, both from long range, and created several chances for his teammates.

He rounded off an impressive performance by providing an assist for Szoboszlai’s goal, delivering a cross to the Hungary international after a quick counter-attack.

With matches coming in quick succession, Arne Slot will be encouraged to see another forward in good form.

However, the Dutch manager faces a difficult choice in deciding who will complete his attack for the upcoming fixture against Bournemouth.

Since joining Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven, Gakpo has mostly played as a striker. However, it is unlikely that he will start on the left over Diogo Jota, as Slot prefers his compatriot in the left-forward position.

As a result, the Liverpool manager will have to choose between Luis Diaz and Gakpo for the left-wing role, with Mohamed Salah certain to start on the right.
