“We Know”: Harry Kane Makes His Feelings Clear on Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold After England Win Again
Trent Alexander-Arnold has made a strong start to the season for Liverpool as a right-back.
England secured their second win in the UEFA Nations League, defeating Finland on Tuesday evening. The major headline was Harry Kane reaching his 100th cap and celebrating with a brace at Wembley.
However, it was Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold who stole the spotlight, being named Man of the Match, just as he was in England’s previous win over the Republic of Ireland last weekend.
Liverpool fans are likely pleased that Gareth Southgate is no longer England’s manager. During Southgate’s tenure, Alexander-Arnold was rarely played, and when he was, it was not in his preferred right-back position.
Interim manager Lee Carsley, who led the U21s to victory in the European Championships with an attacking style of play, has given Alexander-Arnold a central role, and the results are already showing.
In just two matches under Carsley, Alexander-Arnold has arguably contributed more than he did during Southgate’s near-decade as manager.
The prospect of a partnership between Alexander-Arnold and Kane should be exciting, yet fans have rarely seen them connect effectively in the final third for the national team.
During the match against Finland, there were glimpses of this connection, with Alexander-Arnold assisting Kane for his opening goal.
After the game, Kane expressed his admiration for his teammate’s performances and ball skills, sharing his thoughts with ITV Sport.
Harry Kane Praises Trent Alexander
“A great performance,” said Kane. “He backed up another top performance he played against Ireland as well.
“We know what Trent can do when he hits it into those pockets and looks forward and has runners in behind and you saw that today.
“Throughout the whole game, even though it was 0-0 for a while, we were still threatening and looked like the team who were going to break the deadlock.”
With Kieran Trippier stepping down from international duty, Kyle Walker not being picked, and Reece James dealing with persistent injuries, the right-back position is now Alexander-Arnold’s to claim.
It appears that an attack-minded coach will be leading the team at Wembley ahead of the 2026 World Cup, regardless of other developments.
Whether Eddie Howe or Lee Carsley takes over as the next England manager, a progressive, modern coach is expected to fit seamlessly with Alexander-Arnold’s playing style, allowing him to perform at his best.
