“I’m Mystified” – Graeme Souness Predicts Liverpool Title Chances Following Man United Win

Graeme Souness has offered high praise for Liverpool while making a prediction regarding their Premier League title chances following their dominant 3-0 victory over Manchester United.

Souness expressed his belief that Liverpool’s dynamics haven’t shifted under the management of Arne Slot, particularly commending their work rate under the Dutch coach. However, he also shared his opinion that Liverpool might ultimately fall short in the title race against Arsenal and Manchester City.

Liverpool’s 3-0 triumph over Manchester United on Sunday marked another success in Slot’s flawless start as the Reds have won every game this season without conceding a single goal.

Mohamed Salah continued his remarkable form at Old Trafford by scoring for the seventh consecutive match there. He also assisted Luis Diaz in scoring a brace, giving Liverpool a 2-0 lead by halftime.

Salah has now scored 10 goals in his last nine visits to Liverpool’s fiercest rivals, although he has admitted that this season will be his “last year at the club.”

Liverpool’s convincing performance in Manchester, along with their overall strong start under Slot, has likely dispelled concerns that they might struggle following a quiet summer transfer window. Souness supported this view when sharing his thoughts on Sunday’s impressive victory.

“It’s a very, very healthy outfit,” he said on talkSPORT. “It’s a fabulous job. You don’t normally get a job because it’s going well. He’s walked into a job that was going well.

“He’s got a group of youngsters behind him and he’s had a good a chance to look at the players. I’m sure he’s got a budget but why would you want to go into Liverpool and make changes?

“I mean, I’m mystified. Maybe I just know nothing about football and I hear all these pundits talking about how different it is. I don’t see a different Liverpool.

“What I saw yesterday it was so impressive because what you have, and Man City fall into the same category, Arsenal fall into the same category, The first thing you overlook is the work rate.

“It’s all right to be clever on the ball and make cute passes but the number one priority is to go in there and work your socks off.

“Let me tell you when I was a player at Liverpool generally the best team that closes down will generally win the league. And when you analyze closing down, it’s working hard.

“I saw from my team yesterday a team that worked their socks off, very aggressive that was taken by their midfield. Szoboszlai and Gravenberch, I thought they bullied everyone in there and they won at a canter.

“That could have been a lot worse when you think of the chances. They were very impressive yesterday, but I don’t see a different Liverpool.”

When asked if the Reds will win the title, he added: “The reason I don’t think they will win it is because the other two teams [Arsenal and Manchester City] are better than them.”
