The “Incredible” Liverpool Moment That Impressed Arne Slot the Most Against Manchester United

Arne Slot praised his Liverpool team for their resilient response after an early disallowed goal in their 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

In what was Slot’s inaugural visit to United as the head coach of the Reds, his team dominated the match. Trent Alexander-Arnold initially found the back of the net, but the goal was ruled out following a VAR review, which determined that Mohamed Salah was in an offside position.

Despite the setback, Luis Diaz went on to score two goals in the first half, and Salah added another in the second half, marking his third goal of the season. This win maintained Liverpool’s perfect start to the new Premier League season.

With seven goals scored and none conceded in their first three matches, Slot expressed his admiration for the team’s performance. The victory also marked a historic moment for Slot, as he became the first Liverpool manager to secure a win at Old Trafford in his debut fixture there since George Kay achieved the feat in 1936.

“Could it have gone much better? No, I don’t think so,” Slot said. “Everything that you want to see as a manager you saw in this game. There were some difficult moments for us, I think United started really well and won some corner kicks but we fought ourselves through those moments.

“Then we had the disallowed goal but there was no negative reaction at all, we just kept playing. We scored three, could have scored more and two important saves from Ali in the second half. Everything was there.

“The most important was the work-rate was incredible from all of them without the ball. That makes it a very positive day. I normally don’t use the word proud, but what we did really well in all three games is the work-rate without the ball.

“We tried to press the opponent as high as we can but if they play through or over our press I see everybody working really hard to make sure we don’t need Ali. Sometimes we do and it’s a good thing we have a really good goalkeeper.

“What impressed me the most is the way we played with the ball as I know what we can do without the ball. The way we played with the ball was very good today.

Slot added: “I’m not sure the people in Holland will 100% agree [it was the biggest game of my career] as Feyenoord v Ajax is quite a good game, but all over the world people see this is the bigger game.

“It was special to be involved in this game and it’s only special if you win it and that’s what we did. Really pleased we won it but maybe even more with how we did it.”
