Liverpool Handed Nightmare Run as Champions League Fixture List Confirmed
Liverpool are set to face both Real Madrid and Manchester City in consecutive home games at Anfield this November, following the confirmation of their Champions League fixture list.
The schedule presents Liverpool with a challenging series of matches, as they are slated to host Real Madrid and Manchester City back-to-back.
This comes after the club’s return to the Champions League, where they learned their eight opponents during Thursday’s draw, marking the beginning of the revamped expansion of Europe’s premier club competition.
In what appears to be a daunting draw, Liverpool found out they would be hosting the reigning champions Real Madrid, along with Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen, Lille, and Bologna.
In addition to these home fixtures, Liverpool will also be traveling to face RB Leipzig, AC Milan, PSV Eindhoven, and Girona.
Liverpool had to wait until Saturday to learn the sequence of their league matches and how these would align with their overall schedule.
UEFA has now confirmed the full league-phase fixture list, revealing that Liverpool will start their campaign with an away game against AC Milan on Tuesday, September 17. The team’s final league match is scheduled to take place at PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday, January 29.
Liverpool’s highly anticipated clash with Real Madrid is set for Wednesday, 27 November, during matchweek four.
This encounter comes just days before Liverpool is scheduled to host Manchester City at Anfield on Saturday, 30 November. Following that, Liverpool will embark on a midweek trip to Newcastle United on Wednesday, 4 December.
In another exciting fixture, Xabi Alonso will make his return to Anfield as the manager of Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday, 5 November, during matchweek three.
October presents a challenging period for Liverpool, with a trip to RB Leipzig on Wednesday, 23 October.
This match is sandwiched between a home game against Chelsea on Saturday, 19 October, and an away match against Arsenal on Sunday, 27 October.
Liverpool will have seven league matches kicking off at 8 pm. The only exception is their away trip to Girona on Tuesday, 10 December, which is scheduled to start at 5:45 pm.
This match in matchweek six will take place shortly after the season’s first Merseyside derby, away at Everton, on Saturday, 7 December.
