“Would Be Brilliant”: Jamie Carragher Names Two Man City Stars He’d Love to See Sign for Liverpool
Manchester City have outperformed Liverpool in the Premier League standings six times in the past seven seasons.
Each of these instances has resulted in Pep Guardiola’s team securing the Premier League title, a feat they have now achieved four consecutive times.
Liverpool, now under the guidance of their new manager Arne Slot, are once again striving to dethrone City, a challenge they have not accomplished since their first-ever league title win in 2020.
Recently, a pundit and former Reds player made a noteworthy claim about the Merseyside club, highlighting the significance of two key Manchester City players.
Jamie Carragher Says Nathan Ake and Josko Gvardiol Would Be Perfect Signings for Liverpool
In a recent fan debate on The Overlap, Jamie Carragher openly discussed the type of player he believes Liverpool needs in their squad, mentioning two Manchester City players he feels would be ideal.
He said: “When I look at what City and Arsenal have got, there’s a certain player at both clubs who I think would be brilliant for Liverpool.
“Arsenal have just brought in [Riccardo] Calafiori and Man City have got Nathan Ake and [Josko] Gvardiol.
“I think Liverpool could do with a left-footed centre-back who can play left-back. I think it would give you a nice balance.
“The problem is Van Dijk plays on the left but I don’t think it would be the end of the world if he had to play on the right for some games.
“I think if you had one of those players and you had Trent [Alexander-Arnold] doing his thing and being a bit more solid on that left side.
“Andy Robertson is getting older, [Kostas] Tsimikas you’re not sure if he’ll ever be at the level and I just think a left-footed centre-half is massive for Dutch coaches.”
Last season, the two defenders made a combined 57 Premier League appearances, demonstrating their versatility by alternating between centre-back and left-back positions. This underscores their significance to Guardiola and Manchester City.
Therefore, while Carragher might believe a left-footed centre-back would be ideal for Liverpool, neither the Merseyside club nor any other team should consider attempting to sign Ake or Gvardiol from City in the near future.
