While Van den Berg’s sale is expected to bring in £25 million for Liverpool, it raises concerns about who Arne Slot plans to bring in as his replacement.

Pathway Cleared for Amara Nallo

Based on the performances observed in the summer friendlies, it is clear that Van den Berg could have seamlessly integrated into the Liverpool squad for the upcoming season.

However, Van den Berg expressed a desire to leave, and with Liverpool poised to receive a significant financial gain from his departure, it is understandable that the club opted to sell.

With Van den Berg out of the equation, Nat Phillips now stands as Liverpool’s fifth-choice centre-back. Yet, Phillips is also expected to depart, which means the 27-year-old cannot be relied upon for the season.

In addition to Phillips, there is a possibility that Joe Gomez, Liverpool’s fourth-choice central defender, could also leave the club. This creates a chaotic situation in Liverpool’s center-back department.

Even if Gomez stays, Liverpool may still need to rely on their fifth-choice center-back at some point during the season. Given the number of matches Liverpool will play, this is not an unlikely scenario.

With the transfer window still open, there remains hope that Liverpool will enter the market to secure a new center-back. However, at present, there is no concrete indication that the club will do so.

As a result, attention turns to Liverpool’s academy for potential candidates to fill the gap. In doing so, it becomes evident that Amara Nallo is the player most likely to step up.

Nallo was included in the squad that traveled to the USA this summer under Slot’s management. He also made the bench during the pre-season friendly victory over Sevilla. At just 17 years old, Nallo is clearly a player on Liverpool’s radar.

Evaluating Amara Nallo’s Abilities

Barry Lewtas, the coach for Liverpool’s U21s, has described Nallo as ‘excellent.’ Last season, the teenager was already performing at a level well beyond his age group.

With a vacancy emerging at the center-back position, it’s not a stretch to suggest that Nallo is being considered for potential involvement with the first team this season.

However, Liverpool could quickly change this trajectory by signing one or more new players, which remains a possibility. For now, though, the outlook appears promising for Nallo to seize his opportunity.
