Liverpool Player Ratings as Diogo Jota “Tireless”, One “Impressive” and Two Others Shine in Win vs Ipswich Town
Liverpool kicked off Arne Slot’s tenure with an impressive win against newly promoted Ipswich Town on Saturday. Goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah secured a 2-0 victory at Portman Road.
With this result, Slot becomes the first Liverpool manager to win his debut league game since Graeme Souness did so in 1991. Here is how Liverpool players performance vs Ipswich today were rated…
Alisson Becker – 6
Alisson was positioned well to handle a header from Greaves in the first half, but he wasn’t always decisive in his distribution. After the break, he had little to do.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7
Trent had a somewhat inconsistent first half, but he defended well when needed and quickly corrected his errors. His performance improved in the second half, highlighted by a crucial pass to Salah during the buildup to the opening goal. He was later substituted.
Virgil van Dijk – 7
Van Dijk sent Salah on a run with a precise ball over the top in the first half but generally took his time in possession. His excellent pass to the Egyptian led to the second goal. He was solid defensively throughout.
Jarell Quansah – 7
Quansah defended aggressively from the start and managed several long balls from Ipswich. However, he was substituted at halftime in what seemed like a curious decision.
Andy Robertson – 6
Robertson had a shaky start in both possession and positioning, appearing rusty. He showed some improvement after the break but was ultimately substituted.
Ryan Gravenberch – 8
Gravenberch had some strong moments on the ball and resisted pressure impressively. He is still learning when to tackle effectively. As the game progressed and spaces opened up, he began to enjoy himself more, particularly in a deeper midfield role. His performance was very encouraging.
Alexis Mac Allister – 6
Mac Allister wasn’t as involved in the game as he might have hoped and was fouled at least once, but he was decent when in possession. He had one shot blocked.
Mohamed Salah – 8
Salah forced a series of corners in the first half, but his overall threat didn’t quite translate into an end product. After the break, he came alive, assisting the opening goal and expertly finishing the second.
Dominik Szoboszlai – 7
Szoboszlai had a relatively quiet first half, with his most notable contribution being a shot that was blocked and led to a corner. However, his performance improved significantly after the break. He adapted well to the number 10 role and played a key part in setting up Salah’s second goal.
Luis Diaz – 7
Diaz began the game with energy, making strong runs down the left flank. However, his influence waned as the first half progressed. Like many of his teammates, he found his rhythm again in the second half, contributing effectively as Liverpool took control.
Diogo Jota – 8
Jota was tireless in his efforts, constantly working and making direct runs that posed the biggest threat to the opposition in the first half. Although he missed a significant chance, he quickly made up for it by scoring the opening goal with a characteristic finish. He was substituted later in the match.
Ibrahima Konate (for Quansah, 46′) – 7
Konate entered the game at the start of the second half as Ipswich began to apply more pressure. He responded well, showing solidity and determination in defense.
Conor Bradley (for Alexander-Arnold, 77′)
Bradley seamlessly slotted into the right-back position after coming on as a substitute. He nearly added a third goal for Liverpool with a late effort.
Cody Gakpo (for Jota 79)
Released a few times inside the area. but crosses cleared. Booked.
Kostas Tsimikas (fro Robertson 79)
Minutes at left-back.
