Liverpool Set to Meet the Agent of a “Boss” Defender, the Reds Hope to Sign This Summer

Liverpool are reportedly preparing to meet with the agent of a defensive prospect they are keen to recruit this summer.

Arne Slot has encountered difficulties in the transfer market, with Liverpool’s planned rebuild under the Dutchman not proceeding as expected. The team has yet to secure a senior first-team player this summer.

Martin Zubimendi declined Liverpool’s advances after it seemed progress was being made on a deal for the 25-year-old, who played in the latter part of the Euro 2024 final against England.

Additionally, Liverpool had intended to focus on strengthening their central defence this summer. They had previously been “working hard” to sign Leny Yoro before the teenager opted to join Manchester United.

Despite the collapse of the Zubimendi deal at the last moment, it appears that Liverpool still have funds available for new acquisitions, with a potential focus on securing a new centre-back.

Virgil Van Dijk has drawn interest from the Saudi Pro League this summer as he enters the final year of his contract with Liverpool.

A report from O Jogo indicates that Liverpool are scheduled to meet with Miguel Pinho, the agent of Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio, this week. The purpose of the meeting is to explore what it would take for Liverpool to sign the Portuguese defender.

Pinho is expected to negotiate with Liverpool during the meeting, aiming to secure a concrete offer for Inacio.

In January, Liverpool were reportedly scouting Inacio, with their scouts attending Sporting Lisbon’s 5-1 victory over Estoril.

Newcastle United were also in attendance, but they were reportedly focusing on Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres rather than the Portuguese defender Inacio.

Pinho, who is also Bruno Fernandes’ agent and facilitated Fernandes’ new contract with Manchester United, is currently in England. This situation potentially facilitates a meeting with Liverpool.

The report indicates that Liverpool are anticipated to present their proposal for Inacio. Although Inacio’s release clause is set at £52 million, Sporting Lisbon might be willing to negotiate a deal around £38 million.
