“Frîghtening”: Pundit Convinced Liverpool Star Will Be a “Big Problem” for Premier League Defences
Former Liverpool striker Neil Mellor was impressed by one particularly “frightening” player during Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over Sevilla on Sunday.
Liverpool were electrifying in their performance as Arne Slot managed the team at Anfield for the first time. By halftime, the Reds had established a commanding 3-0 lead with three spectacular goals.
Diogo Jota opened the scoring with a stunning volley from a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross. Luis Diaz then doubled the lead with a powerful shot into the top corner.
Diaz scored again following some excellent buildup play. Liverpool advanced the ball from Alisson’s six-yard box to Sevilla’s net in just four passes, with Dominik Szoboszlai providing the final assist for Diaz.
The pace slowed considerably in the second half, with Liverpool visibly easing up on their intensity. Nonetheless, Trey Nyoni scored, providing a fitting end to an impressive preseason for him.
Although Mohamed Salah did not score or assist in this match, he was notably absent from the list of goal scorers. Despite this, there was a sense that he might have been the most impressive player on the field.
Salah’s dribbling and movement early in the game unsettled Sevilla’s defense. His ability to draw defenders away created ample space for Diaz and Jota to capitalize on.
Szoboszlai also benefited from Salah’s presence, making a run behind him to contribute to Liverpool’s third goal.
Neil Mellor, providing analysis for LFCTV, was highly impressed with Salah and believes he could be the standout performer from the match.
“The big thing for Liverpool fans is we’ve got Mo Salah raring to go, which will be frightening for the rest of the Premier League,” he said after the game.
Mellor then went on to say that “he will be a big problem for Premier League defences again this season”.
We have no objections to that. Salah appears exceptionally sharp, and since he’s one of the few top players who has had a full preseason, the Reds’ No. 11 seems poised to captain the team once more.
